I took a DVD-RAM recorded on my E-500 DVDR and burned that DVD-RAM to a DVD-R on the most recent multi- drive capable Toshiba laptop- the Qosmio F25. The S97 and XP50 pannys played it flawlessly, but the panny XP-30 AND The E500 DVDR(which originally recorded the source) would not recognize the DVD-R. This has to be some kind of different chip/configuration that the 2005 S97 and 2002 XP50 have that the 2002 XP-30 and 2004 E500 DVDR does not.

It's likely that your dvd players are using different dvd loaders, despite them all being made from the same manufacturer. There's more to a dvd player's ability to read dvdr media than just the dvd loader, you must also factor in the quality of your dvd media, how fast it was burned, the quality of your dvd burner. It is best to find a working combination of all those factors and stick with it.

The DVD-R media was 8X made in Japan - Fuji which are very good- The media is NOT the problem.

I have always used Yuden 8X DVD-R and Pro-Disc MCC 8x DVD-R and I have NEVER encountered a player that couldn't play them, the XP30 may be on it's way out, but who knows, this certainly is weird though
