Metroid Prime Hunters has come along way since the demo:

Bummer about voice only working between games though.

Is the no voice in-game due to hardware limitation? I can't imagine why they would not include the feature otherwise. It's easy enough to also implement a 'No Voice' option and/or ability to mute little turds when necessary.

I personally like in-game voice chat for the most part - Cooperating, chatting, arguing, singing... :)

Probably not enough CPU power to handle voice and the game. It is a handheld after all! SOCOM on PSP does it but thats a much more advanced machine (and pricer too) and its not as smooth as voice on a console.

Definitely hardware limitations - for IP chat, you need some pretty costly compression algorithms for it not to eat up all the bandwidth. If it were a co-op game, it would hurt. But for this game, I won't miss it too much. Though a quick touchscreen menu of preset taunts might have been cool. Make your own textual taunts and send them with a stylus touch or something.

The graphics are quite impressive for the DS. I read on IGN that Retro had a hand in the final product; I would assume that to be the art assets as the levels look very good. I Still think the best looking DS games are Kirby's Canvas Curse followed by Metroid Pinball. But in terms of pure 3D graphics, this game definitely takes home the gold.

This game looks fantastic, but I am still leery of using the touch screen to control "freelook" or aim. I just think it will feel awkward to hold the DS that way. I hope I can get used to it. I really wish more would be written about the controls. I am assuming the default config is to use the D-pad to move and the L-Trigger to shoot. I wonder how you jump? Tapping the screen? I feel this will have a learning curve.

pwrmetal,

With the MP demo that came with the launch DS's, it was more an issue of finding a position that wouldn't give you a hand-cramp. If you've played FPS games with a mouse and keyboard on a PC, the learning curve is actually very low, especially when using the thumb strap. Now that you can adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen movements, it should be even better. Tapping the screen to jump works rather well, actually. Doesn't take long to get used to it, though intense platform hopping can be a bit tough. Overall, the control system is surprisingly precise and intuitive. It's definitely not something to worry about. If you're unsure, though, find a demo unit somewhere. It will likely have the original Metroid demo in it. Give it a shot.

How does Resident Evil look? I seen screens and werent to impressed but screenshots via pc usually look less than stellar as opposed to the real deal (could be my crappy display)

Shawn,

Thanks for the comments!!

This is one of my primary concerns. The DS, as much as I love it, is pretty heavy, and I worry about having to hold it in a different way for this game. This might be something the DS Lite will mitigate, but I don't plan to get one of those unless the EB/Gamestops of the world offer some sort of sweet trade-in deal.

My pleasure.

Your concern about the weight is very valid. And you WILL have to hold the DS in a different way, unfortunately. I will say, due to the comfort issue, I'm not uber-psyched about Hunters. I know I will really enjoy it as it seems to offer a great gaming experience, but I have this feeling that Tetris will end up being my new online addiction, just edging out Hunters - maybe even (gasp!) Mario Kart.
I've played hours of versus Tetris with my wife on two linked GameBoys. One of the best multiplayer experiences you can have, IMO. I find that too many multiplayer games are high-intensity, at least for my tastes. In contrast, Tetris offers that nice, Zen-like experience. It will be a sales phenomenon, that one. Mark my words ;).
