I was doing some testing with CDs on Powerdvd. I decided to try to compare cds with dvds, so I stuck a dvd in and tried to play. Powerdvd said it was an unrecognizable disc. I had played this dvd many times before with no problems. I ejected it, then inserted it to try it again. the same thing happened. it finally worked, but only once. Then it started acting up again. I have tried 3 DVDs, all with the same result. It seems to work if I keep trying for 20 times or so, but that is a huge waste of time. I have tried restarting the computer. Nothing helps.
however, CDs still work fine on it.
What do I need to do to get it working again?
Are you speaking of audio CDs or video CDs? I can't say I've ever tried to play either on PowerDVD, but there may be just some gltch in the program or the installation. For audio CDs, there are much are much better suited programs for listening to these.
Since reboots don't restore it to normal, uninstall and reinstall it and be sure to add any patches from the website.
Good luck.

I would do what JohnFR suggests, which is to just uninstall, reboot, then reinstall the software and update with any patches or updates from their website. You could have accidently installed something that conflicted with the functionality of the program, or somehow changed a setting!
