My sony tuner keeps going into protect mode. The speakers I have are able to handle 150 watts and the wiring is correct. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Any suggestions on how to fix? I am ready to chuck the tuner and buy a new one!!!

Which model is it? My brother had an old 435 (I believe) that went into "Protector" mode and never returned. I tried taking it apart and tried to see if there was anything obvious, but to no avail. I was going to try to keep it for a garage/basement receiver, but it's cashed.

Good luck!

I had a Sony tuner at one point do this to me. It turned out to be a short in the A speaker switch. You could move your fronts to the B switch and test it.

I will try switching the speakers to b, thanks. The tuner is about 3-4 years old. I will check to see what model it is. Figures, I get the damn hdtv and something else goes wrong!

This probably goes without saying, but you also want to be absolutely certain there's no stray wire filaments/fragments shorting the speaker terminals to the case or to other terminals.

I used electrical tape to ensure that was not a problem. Thanks though.

It's a receiver with an amp in it. It's not a tuner!

Now you may resume your previously engaged discussion.
