30XS955 and upconverting DVD

newbie question I know, but does the 30XS955 upconvert a DVD signal (480i I think) to a higher resolution (1080i) automatically? Is it beneficial to get an upconverting DVD player? I think I might be confusing terms, but I couldn't get a straight answer out of the DVD players forum. I had thought that my receiver upconverted (Marantz SR7400), but the term upconvert just seems to refer to it's ability to convert composite and s-video inputs to a component output... upconverting DVD is something totally different I gather.. Any "schooling" would be appreciated.

Hey man, yes the XS955 does a sort of upconversion as long as the input is 480iwith DRC. The reciver really only "upconverts" your signals to component, just like you said. It basically outputs it at 480P. Check out this thread for some good info on your TV and options:
