Depends if you want quality or size?
If it's quality and you don't mind a smaller picture then get the XBR960 no doubt!
If you don't mind the larger picture but sacrifice PQ then get the LCD.
either way it's a win win situation.
For gaming i prefur CRT though but that's just me.

For quick reference, look up the HS420 series. That's basically what the XBR970 is.

Only a bit dumbed down even more than the hs420 series.

If your main concern is Xbox360 it would be a tough choice ,I would say the LCD is going to show finer details than the XBR960 and of course the larger screen would be very noticable , I currently own an XBR960 and play a lot of Xbox 360 (Oblivion currently) and it looks *great* plus ive always been picky about Black level performance (something most LCDs have trouble with). but this setup is in my room so the 34" screensize is 'just right' for me.

SUPER FINE PITCH!!!!! Get the xbr960, There is no better. 34 inches is fine as long as you don't sit a mile away. Wait for the future to buy a big tv. I will get a new one as well once the picture of my xbr960 is on a 50 inch sony. Now the 50 inch sony;s look like crap compared to the xbr960 and lcds forget it what a joke.
