View Full Version : Actiontec port forwarding issues

My Actiontec gateway (DSL modem/router) kept requiring daily reboots.
I contacted my phone company and they directed me to a firmware upgrade.
After the firmware upgrade, everything but my port forwarding settings stayed active.
I can't get my main Replay unit to pass IVS tests.
I set up Replay #2 in the exact same manner and it works fine. (different IP and port, of course)
Anyone ever see a message like this:

Unable to contact ReplayTV unit.
500 Can't connect to ##.##.###.##:##### (connect: Invalid argument)
Check your port forwarding settings

on Dreamer's site? (and what did you have to do to fix it?)
(IP address and port removed for protection. The "invalid argument" is the part I don't understand.)

Thanks in advance.

The IP address or port number were invalid but since you didn't tell us what they were I can't be specific. Port number should be between 1025 and 65535. The last field of the IP address must be between 1 and 254. There is no reason to mask your private IP address. Millions of people are using the same address.

I don't recall if that was the exact error or not, but I think I've seen the "Invalid Argument" before w/ The Dreamers IVS tester. Not sure what it means, but when I ran across it, I just waited 30 seconds and ran the test again. No problemo Bob.

The IP address was issued by my telco and the last field was most assuredly between 1 and 254. (about 180 below 254, to be specific)
The port number was between 1025 and 65535. (about 2000 below 65535, to be specific)
As I said, my Replay #2 is working for IVS without problems.
I set Replay #1 up with the same port number it was working with before.

sixt7gt350 - Not sure, but Murphy might have just found your problem, but there's nothing you can do about it except wait - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=664158
myreplaytv.com and rddns both come off of the same ancient, broken down UltraSparc server.
Not *entirely* specific but does narrow it down? :D

(but notice I don't post my ports here either)

Reboot the affected ReplayTV.

If I know Karnac he most probably rebooted the affected ReplayTV.

And rebooted again?

Such TiVoesque double-speak would make SpamTastic pettifoggers proud -- such as hinting to the technical notion of "no fee increase" when prices in fact go up. Case in point the IP field is assuredly between the bounds of 1 and 254, but no more exactly specific than that. In spite of the impression of such. ;)

(only know because Karnac sent a message from the future) http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon3.gif

I do not think this word specific means what you think it means......

True.

Karnac literally (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7443424&&#post7443424) posted (fleeting) clarification (in this very thread) 13 hours in advance of 4:34 PM CDT Yesterday.
