I have had this receiver for about 3 years and until recently have had no problems. It is connected to my DVD player by analog (two wire) and digital (optical) means. Periodically, the sound will completely drop out. Sometimes, it comes back, other times it won't. I can turn it off and the sound will come back. You can hear something click when the receiver is 'ready'. This is how I know the sound has come back, if the movie is paused. I am pretty sure this only occurs with Dolby Digital Playback, but it may occur in DTS mode as well. I was hoping someone had experienced this and had some answers or solutions. Thanks.

The only thing i can think of is a loose optical connection on one end or the other. Optical cables are notorious for connecting loosely. Or possibly a damaged cable or a sharp bend in it(the signal is sent on a light path, a sharp bend will cause a signal loss). You could try a coax connection if you have a coax out on the DVD player and a coax in open on the receiver and see if that corrects the problem. If you have a cable or sat box that has optical out you could plug that in to the same input you have the DVD running into now to see if the problem still exists with another source. There might be a few other things i could think of , but try these out 1st and see what happens.
