I am getting ready to hook up the following:

- Panny AE900U Projector
- Pioneer VSX72-TXV Receiver
- Oppo DVD Player
- SA 8300HD DVR Cable Box
- Xbox 360

My receiver has the HDMI switching capability, but I am 95% sure my cable box will not work with it at this time. I ran a component and an HDMI cable to my projector.

The Xbox has to go via component, so no issue there. The issue is really with the Oppo and the cable box. Should I run the cable box via component, and the Oppo via HDMI? Or, should I run the cable box directly to the projector using the HDMI cable, to get the best picture, and then output everything else from the receiver to the projector via the component cable?

I am somewhat new to all of this, and just wondering which way would be best. I was originally thinking of running everything to the receiver and outputting it from there, but then someone said the direct HDMI from the cable box would result in a much better picture.

I suppose a third option would be to get a standalone switcher, that wouldn't have the HDCP issues.

Looking for advice.

Thanks,
Andy

I hooked up my cable box via component and used the HDMI for the DVD player. I want a better picture for my DVD then i do for my Cable. I would use the HDMI for what you use the most. reguarding the picture quality on using the receiver. It really depends on you. I would try the different combinations and see if you notice a difference. Use what looks the best for you. It is more convienent to run everything to the receiver.

Another thing to consider is upscaling. I beleive the Oppo only outputs 720p via the HDMI connection, but I may be mistaken.

That's kind of the way I was leaning. I think I would rather have everything through the receiver, just for the convenience. Then, if I am ever able to hook the cable box up via HDMI to the receiver, I can just swap it out.

Thanks.
