Samsung HL-S5087W 50" 1080p DLP HDTV?

Was thinking about getting it for gaming, DVD's, HD TV and stuff like that. Just came out and I have read so many great things about it and how they fixed a lot of the problems in last year models. Especially the rainbow effect and the bulb blowing is no more. What do you guys think? Is this a nice TV for 1080p?

I'm hearing the JVC 57' is better then this TV but the biggest I could fit would be a 50.

I have a second part to the question. I need to buy a new receiver, now I won't buy one until I get this TV depending on what you guys say concerning this TV. But after answering my question with the TV, can anyone tell me some nice receivers that are about in the range of $1,500? Is that to cheap? I really can't afford anything more expansive. I have 5.1 surround now but my receiver is old and would like to get a new one with the TV.

Thank you... :)

Well, I don't have the Samsung DLP, but I can tell you I'm getting excellent results running all my audio and video through a Yamaha 5990 reciever to a Pioneer plasma. HD-DVD and D-VHS are stunning, both sound and video (sound only with D-VHS). Setting up the reciever was simple and everything is pretty much automatic.

So if you have $1500 to spend you could get into some of the RXV series Yamahas and probably be pretty happy.

Your TV question should go in the DLP section, not the Amps/Receivers section. As for the receiver, it doesn't really depend on what TV you get except for two things: does the receiver support DVI/HDMI switching/conversion and does it support Audio Sync Delay.

For your receiver budget there are plenty of nice options. Look at Pioneer Elite, Denon 2807/3806, Yamaha RXV-4600, Marantz SR8500, etc. There are also some new models coming out in the next couple months and more will offer HDMI capability.

You could afford the Boston Acoustics separates AVP7/A7200 combo from Onecall although shipping would put you about $1600. It's one of the highest-discounted options available at the moment--but it doesn't do DVI or HDMI. There's also the AVR7120 receiver for less $.

If your primary use is gaming, DVD and TV rather than music then $1500 is about 3 times more than you really need to be spending, IMO. What are your speakers/sub? *That's* what will make the biggest difference by far, not the receiver.

You might provide a bit more information about what your audio requirements/preferences are.

I got a Denon 4306 for tad over your target price. I choose this one for HDMI switching, features (e.g., networking), and ample power for my fairly modest needs. I like it despite some trouble with set up/configuration (dense, non-user friendly manual).
