what makes a processor sound better with tv sound whether it be analouge or dd through either sat box or cable box. I think in general these sources are very compressed and in my auditions over the years some pre pros sound much better than others. Example classe ssp 30 sounded amazing, krell showcase and some others. I find its harder to hear a difference with movies(dvds) between pre pros but tv sound really varies. I am considering some pre pros that will fit the bill but limited to these only due to my dealer gets me a killer deal(friend) on lex considering the mc-8 or 4, maybe bryston sp2 or krell showcase. I love the showcase sound but lacks some features like bass management and and some other features, but have not heard the others.

the other way to go is a bryston amp 9bsst or krell showcase amp pick up either an outlaw 990, rotel 1057 or even a class ssp 30 in the same price range and let all this crap we are going through with this technology weed out and pick up a decent pre soon down the road? and in the meantime have a killer amp as a foundation.

I currently have a kenwood digital receiver that has been great in the mean time but it was always a hold me over!

its weakest point is tv not bad just not as good as the others, dvd are most of the time great and music is very pleasing for $300 bucks its done a great job but tv sound and music it very important especially mutli channel

btw my room is 22' long 15' wide 7' high acoustically treated with paradigm signiture c3 center, s2 mains and sig adp surround with paradigm in walls for the surround backs

thanks guys, these are pretty much the choices I have to me so I would like to get feedback on the pieces I listed, thanks again,

Bob

While I am not saying that certain processors don't do a better job of handling different sources (including TV) I would like to ask if you are demoing from a cable/sat source are you demoing from the same one. Even the same channel from the same company could be vastly different in source and not necessarily the processor. Even in the same house. I used to get different sound in one room than the other due to low quality (real low - affected some video channels too) cable to an older room versus new higher quality to an addition... So unless you have two processors hooked up to the same source, simultaniously in the same room - forget having a meaningful comparison on a tv source.

Moving from a $300 reciever to a MC-8 or other piece with a comprable amp would be amazing no matter how "bad" the new one is at "TV" - That's just my .02.

Both Bryston and Krell amps would be great choices. I have a Krell Showcase amp and love it. Both amps represent excellent values if you buy them used (Bryston amps have transferrable warranties and you can often find great deals on demo Showcase amps with full warranty).

everything was tested in my room on the same system and the kenwood digital replaced my ref 50 rotel combo because it was better with music.

thanks for the replys

The Classe SSP30 is probably a fine sounding unit (from what I read) but it is no longer made and outdated feature wise - lacks DPLIIx, lip-sync adjustment, among others, not to mention no HDMI switching. Likewise the Krell Showcase and Lexicon models. You may want to consider the Anthem AVM30 or AVM50 (adds HDMI and video processing) that has all these and has received excellent reviews. Or, if you can afford it, the Anthem D2.
