Which current 42" Plasmas take cable cards?
I'm planning on getting a new plasma for a fairly dimly lit room, mostly for TV and movie watching. I am currently considering a Panasonic TH-42PX60U (it doesn't have cable card though but I think there are other versions that do) from Costco or maybe a Pioneer PDP-4271HD.
I 'm looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Costco doesn't sell the 60u - it sells its own version the "6u" -- looks to be mostly the same internals but different bezel and a slightly different feature set.
For a cable card you'll have to upgrade to the 600u, and while the 60u has been going 1000 dollars off MSRP lately, the 600u has not. Expect to pay between 300-700 more for it. It does, however, have cable card, a slightly better input/feature set, and a much, much more attractive appearance.
I beleive the older Toshiba's have cablecard slots if you can still find them -- same thing goes for the Samsungs.

The new Hitachis have a cablecard slot. The 42HDS69 is already out I believe, and the step-up 42HDT79 should be out soon.

The LG model 42LB1DR (LCD, not plasma) takes a cable card. This is a sophisticated set (per CC installer). Comcast installed a Motorola card 2 days ago. I get a few more channels. These cards are high security so no cheating with descrambler boxes. The cable company has to activate the card from central station with a tech on site. For me, it's no monthly charge for the card, compared to a few bucks each month for cable box.

I bought the LG set a couple weeks ago. I choose an LCD since it is in a sunroom and I didn't want to have glare issues. I choose this LG model since it had the CC and a DVR. Perfect for the wall mount.
So far I love the TV. The picture is great and sound is very good. Even SD content with CC is very good and changing the picture ratio is quick and easy with one button (under the slide in the remore). The picture with CC is better than with the HD box. My only negatives are the TVGOS (spotty updates and inability to easily list based on channel numbers) and the fact that the V Chip/parental controls do not work with a CC.
*** Marine - to take the stand off, do you just remove the four screws which appear to hold it on. I couldn't find 6 screws aligned horizontally across the bottom. Thanks.
