Is there such a TV...and is it recommended?
I have looked around and I like the reviews/history of the Pana sets. I was looking at the new Panasonic 600U, but it is not "true HD" with the resolution of 1024 X768. Correct me if I am wrong but this set will still be downconverting to the 1080i standard.
Thanks for all the tips and reviews on this site....lurking has been worthwhile :)

No. 42" HD plasmas are all currently 1024x768 or 1024x1024 ALiS panels (and I have not noticed many 1024x1024 ALiS panels lately). Don't get too hung up on the resolution for smaller screen sizes such as 42". This topic has been discussed here many times.
FYI, the 50" HD plasmas are 1366x768 or 1280x768 (Pioneer xx60 and earlier models). Pioneer has a 1920x1080 50" plasma supposedly showing up real soon, but it will be very pricey at $10K list. So if you want 1280x720 or better in a plasma in 2006, you will have to get a 50" or larger plasma. Which is not a bad idea... :D

Space in the room and the distance from the couch to the TV (no more than 8.5') say different. ;)
And then there is the wife. She sees the price difference between the 42 and the 50 and she says different too :)
But more on why I should not worry about it...am I paying for technology (i.e. a 42" panel with a 1024 X768 reloution) that will be out later this year? Why do you say it will not make that much of a difference...I am not a videophile, but I do I like a nice picture. Sorry I ddin't see any of of the threads you talk about...I must be searching under the wrong variable. Any direction ponting would be appreciated. Thanks!
