I am new to this forum and have searched for an answer to my problem without success. I am hoping someone can help me or point me to a solution.

Equipment:
Denon 1706
Sony 995 DVD changer
Sirius Satellite receiver
Motorola dual tuner DVR
Samsung Plasma TV

All equipment seems to be operating except for source selection on the Denon. I have assigned all of the inputs as follows:
Sony 995 to DVD
Sirius to CD/Tape
Motorola to TV

The problem is this, when I turn on the Master zone I can listen to tuner, TV or DVD but not Sirius. When I turn off the Master zone and turn on Zone 2, I can listen to Tuner and Sirius but not DVD. Is there some setup I am missing that defines which sources can be directed to the master and/or Zone2? I could point to another device if I could not get one of the sources to work at all, but all of the sources work somewhere.

Any help is much appreciated. i am confused.

May be the source setting with master zone not set to auto (detects what type of input it has such as optical or rca l&r). You can usually select what type of input for it to use with each source (auto/digital for DVd and analog for sat radio). Zone 2 on avr's usualy require l&r rca in to the avr to output sound & don't work with optical ins, hence the reason sat radio works in zone 2 but not DVD player.

jeffK987 - Thanks for the reply.

That makes sense for the DVD on zone 2, I'll check the inputs again and see how I have it connected.

Any ideas why I can't get the Sirius source to work in the master zone? I played with it some more last night and it still has me puzzled. Plays perfectly through zone 2.

Thanks again,

Sirus should work with master zone. Is there another device input to cd/tape? (ie: cd player optical). There has to be an override/selection for input type (auto or DTS or analog).

jeffK987, you may be correct about the source conflict, not sure.

I managed to get through to Denon tech support today after 1-1/2 hours on hold. The tech said they have had reports of the "CDR/Tape" input, on the 1706, being touchy about what was connected to it. He advised switching the Sirius receiver to "AUX" and resetting the inputs.

He also confirmed what you said about the DVD being connected as a digital input and that it would not output to zone 2. He said to run a second analog connection from the DVD player to the Denon and use that for zone 2.

He was very helpful, too bad it took so long to get through.

I probably won't get around to making the changes until the weekend. I'll report back what happens.

Thanks again for your help, it is appreciated.
