My current setup is a pair of outdoor speakers mounted up under eaves of house....speaker wire runs to an OLD Sony receiver that is outside house but inside of a small shed. Mostly just use radio and iPod fed through receiver.
Here is my problem: My 10+ year old Sony seems to have died....it keeps saying "protect" on the display. I have read up on this - and is appears to be a safety mechanism that Sony implements when something is wrong and at risk for damaging the unit.
I have unhooked all speakers, antenna and iPod wires....brought the Sony receiver inside and plugged it in...same error. I think it is dead or dying.
Do I replace the unit with another receiver - keep in mind that it is protected from rain...but not humidity & Florida heat....or is there something else that I can use to push sound to the speakers....whatever I use must be able to support iPod...supporting XM would be a bonus....but not neccessary.
I don't want to spend much more than $125...quality of sound is not all that important...it is just music for sitting outside with friends or hanging in the pool.
More important is that the unit can tolerate the humidity & heat and supports iPod input.
So a new cheap receiver, a used one from a pawn shop, a boom box that can push sound to my small outdoor speakers, something designed for boat use????
Any and all input welcome.
Thanks.
