I have no idea whether Zune will be a serious contender with the iPod, but Microsoft *appears* to have a new site to promote the product.

http://www.comingzune.com

I wrote today on my blog (http://imagespace.blogspot.com) two short posts. First asking if anybody knows if the site is REAL. If it is, it is a bizzare marketing choice for Microsoft. Second, I googled the lyrics (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/reginaspektor/us.html) and found that the song is sung by Regina Spektor. Not so amusing. But the top banner is a competition to win a Gen1 iPod--very funny.

You can buy the DRMed track on iTunes for a mere $0.99 or the whole album for $8.00. I may just hit my local second hand record store. I liked what I heard and probably should have some of her music on my iPod.

wow.

I'm half way through consuming the regina spektor links you left (and a few others).

After the initial 20 second disorientation period I was hooked and sunk.

I see she was in the El Rey Theater in LA last month in june. :( I would have been there. I like that theater too. She's touring europe now with no dates listed in the US.

When I first heard her I thought 'telepopmusik unplugged', then bjork, THEN thought nora jones.

whatever she is, it's wonderfull. as bonus she's strangely addictive.

I didn't know who she was. I must be living in a cave (building a barn in to the hill seemed like good energy saving move at the time).

thx for the heads up.

I think m$ wants to take a bite out of the apple...ipod market share.
I don't think it will happen, maybe 2% at most.

if it is good, maybe it will force apple to improve their stuff.

imho itunes sucks.
adding music to your library is a huge pain in the a$$, it can't tell if something has been added to the library.
having to make a playlist to get music in my ipod is a huge pain, and if I forget to connect my usb hd(where my music is located) and I have my ipod set to auto update...my ipod and my playlists gets cleared of every song and I have to start over selecting from my 15000 song collection

ya aint seen nothing yet. try moving over your ipod library over to different brand player. Here's the deal quick quo pro: your next purchase will be apple or forfeit your library.

Don't expect Realplayer or others will develop software that runs on an ipod either. Apple assures them they will be sued via DMCA.

Apple, RIAA.. fooey. The artist should be paid, the rest should be getting wholesale 'ultility' earnings, not commisions.

that's why I will not buy my music online, I buy cd's and rip them as mp3(I will re-rip as flac some day). and when some new player comes out... all I have to do is install their program and load the player with music.
also my music collection is organized by hand(mediamonkey) with album art displayed on the folder

yeah, all their whining about the artist not getting their cut, funny how they get a bigger piece of the pie, it's just a cash grab.

If it gets delayed as much as Vista then they'll have to rename the website to www.ComingSoon.com

Well, the only solution there would be to get a bigger ipod so you can fit the entire collection onto the ipod, that way you don't need a playlist. Actually, I don't sync the entire contents of my library onto my ipod (only have a 4gig mini) and I don't need a playlist. I just check/uncheck the boxes next to the songs. As for the USB HD thing, that sounds like a PEBKAC error to me. ;)

You're very welcome. It was one of those, "I can't wait until tomorrow" moments.

Her voice is pretty amazing.

You don't have to make any playlists if you don't want to. Select music in itunes, drag selection to iPod, huge pain where?
