So I've been reading the 9UK thread, so I wondered over to some of the best known Canadian online sites and the 8UK has dropped a lot. It used to be $1000 dollars more then some forum sponsors. The Canadian sites include shipping so you have to factor that into it, but still they where way more expensive even when factoring in exchange.

Now they are equal or less (since shipping is included) at two of the sites.

Now, fellow Canadians and others who wish to contribute, what is your views on the following ponderance. Has the price been reduced to make room for the 9UK? And when the 9UK comes out it will go back up to being more expensive then the U.S. online price? Cause if so then picking up the 8UK now would be the way to go. But if these price reductions are permanent then I'll wait for the 9UK.

Opinions please!

This site graphs prices for a year.
The interesting bit here isn't the price, but the downward trends in the graphs.
It's like driving a car off the lot and it suddenly drops by 30% of its value.

Bump.

No Canadians with options on going with 8UK price now or waiting for 9UK and hoping prices stay the same?

Kafka-c, I too have been watching the three Canadian sites and have noted a significant drop for the 8UK's at two of these locations. I have had my eye on a 50" now for a few months.

You ask a great question. Jump on the 8UK's now or wait for the 9UK's.

The 9UK's are scheduled to be shipped this week. I personally am not going to make such a costly investment without hearing unbiased reviews from owners. If the reports are good, the design changes not that great and the prices significantly higher than the 8UK's now; then by all means go for the 8's. I'm sure there will be a few still around. Who knows, the sites might discount them even more to off load them.

I just don't like jumping on the bandwagon without knowing all the facts. Why second guess yourself for as long as you own the plasma.

JoeToronto explained it well when he said the 9UK's are 15 pounds lighter for a reason and the four letter word that details the answer begins with c and ends with t.............that's COST in case you have a warped sense of humor . Manufacturer's are always trying to reduce costs and get that competitive edge. Will it be at the expense of quality and performance on your newly purchased unitt?

I'm holding out for the reviews and a few months of operational history to ensure no bugs or flaws exist. By that time the initial rush for the 9's will have diminshed and the price will be driven down by market competition.

Each to his/her own.

Wow. Those 8uKs ARE sinking in price. I can't believe the price for the 50." (Let alone the 42" HD model).

Panasonic Canada drop the MSRP of the Consumer 37" & 42" HD last week so this may be permanent. We may see a drop on the 50" consumer soon as well.

It is still becoming more difficult to justify the Commercial panels considering the PX series now has 2xHDMI and the Hi-Fill aspect ratio. The Commercial 42" still cost more than the consumer once you start purchasing HDMI card and if you compare street prices. The gap with the 50" is large right now but I think that is only temporary. It would not suprise me to see the Consumer 50" MSRP drop by $500.
