Replays Not Downloading Guides

Hi. I've been reading and enjoying the forum for a long time and now I have a problem. After years of trouble-free service, both my Showstopper and 5040 are acting up. After a brief power outage in our neighborhood, neither unit will now connect to get the guide. Each unit's screen shows: Initializing modem and then: dialing. After a minute, I get a message that there was a problem transferring info.

I've tried unplugging each unit overnight and changing the modem speed; no success. In addition, 243-Zones does not get them to connect either. I am able to program the Replays as if they were a vcr and they do change channels, bit no guide.

Is it possible both modems got ruined? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try changing your area code (so your dialup number changes) and then change it back. Do a net connect again.

When you "unplugged" each unit, did you unplug the modem, and the coax cable, and the power cord? There are some problems that can be fixed by total disconnects of a few hours (or overnight).

I took the suggestion of changing the area code and that worked; I was able to connect and download the guides. I remember reading that in the forum a long time ago and forgot about that. I also apologize for not researching the topic more; I would have found that answer. Now I have to figure out why my 5040 is telling me "no video signal detected" after the guide dowloaded. Thanks again.
