I own a Toshiba SD-1800 DVD player. I'm running it through a Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver(component in/out) Had it for about 4-5 years without any problems.
Lately, I noticed if I turn off the player and restart with a disc in it, the picture becomes almost completely black and white with a yellowish colour to it. If I eject the disc and replay it from the beginning the colour seems to return to normal.
Does this mean that I'll probably be shopping for a new DVD player in the near futur?

I'd be more inclined to suspect one of the component connections. Unplug and reconnect each of the RCA plugs in turn, and perhaps give them a slight twist while seating them. If that does not work try another cable, if you don't have one handy any three audio cables will work well enough for a test.

Cables rarely fail, but RCA pin plugs are the world's worst connector design--RCA created them to save money in production. We call them phono plugs now, and RCA is gone, but let us give credit where credit is due.

If neither of the above suggestions work, then you have a good excuse to buy something new.
