View Full Version : Do modern tubes suffer from burn in?
Do modern flat CRT screens have any burn in issues? I ask because I'd rather watch SD television in 4:3 mode, but don't want the black bars burning in.
Thanks in advance.
All CRT's and plasma can suffer burn in without proper setup and not "exercising" the screen.
Follow the precautions, all will be well. Plenty of previous threads in the subject.

I alternate on mine, Samsung TXR-3080WH-30" CRT HDTV
16x9 HD I watch fullscreen, of course.
SD content it depends, if it's letterboxed, then I'll zoom it full, but if its 4x3, I'll just watch it as sent.
TV gets a dose of some each night, plenty of excersize.

So as long as I alternate between aspect ratios I shouldn't have any burn in problems?

Properly calibrate (lower white level significantly) and risk of wear will reduce dramatically. Further, direct-view CRTs are less susceptible than RPTVs which drive the phosphor MUCH much harder.
All phoshor-based displays will wear over time. This includes all CRTs, and plasmas.
