View Full Version : "Squished" Replay Video Through DVA

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I'm a fairly regular reader and haven't seen it come up.

I just built a new desktop and reinstalled all the software on it including DVArchive, Replay Tools, etc. When I stream, view, or download video from either of my 5000 series Replays now, though, the video appears horizontally compressed (or alternately, vertically stretched) on my computer. The video is complete and the audio synchs just fine, but this compression/stretching makes the video difficult to watch and worthless for burning to DVD, etc.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

worthless for buring to dvd? based on what judgement - it's playback through VLC?
I think you have to adjust an "interlace" setting in VLC....

Your view settings have no effect on authoring a DVD with a Replay file. The file has no problem.

You are most likely recording on low quality (which is the only way I record BTW), if you watch the show with windows media player, you will see a squished video. If you record on medium or high it will look better on your windows media player.
Download VLC player and low quality recordings will look great, especially if you turn on de-interlacing. If you burn it to a DVD it will look almost identical to your replay quality, and you can fit 4 hours on 1 DVD.

I have gotten 5+ hours of TV on a single layer DVD. The key is to use an authoring program which does NOT re-encode the mpeg.
