I work at a teaching hospital. We have a three workstations/software that we use to read CT scans. We would like to be able to hook up these three workstations to a switchbox ( preferably a hdmi ) and then to a plasma screen mounted on the wall. The idea being that we can choose which workstation will be showing on the plasma when lecturing/teaching. Also the workstations must still be connected to its original displays for the lecturer.
The three workstations are pretty much closed boxes, theyre from software vendors and we cant add or change the hardware on them. It also means that we cant change the resolutions or settings on them either.
The plasma is a Vizio from costco, it has an hdmi and a vga input. The three workstations are:
1. A windows workstation with a card that has dual dvi out.
2. A windows workstation with a single dvi out.
3. A linux (redhat) workstation with a single dvi out. The single dvi out though has a dongle/splitter connected to it that feeds two DVI lcd monitors. The monitors are not mirrored. So we would treat each feed from the dongle seperately.
I plan on picking up a 4-port hdmi switch. Workstations 1 & 2 are pretty straightforward since i can use a dvi->hdmi cable for 1, and a dvi splitter and dvi->hdmi cable for 2.
For workstation 3 i might have trouble. My plan is to use two dvi splitters, one from each feed from the dongle. That means that the one dvi port from the computer will feed two lcd monitors and two ports into the switch. Will this work? Does anyone have any experience with video cards that has one port but two distinct feeds from a splitter.
Should I stick to VGA and use a VGA switchbox along with dvi->vga cables?
Also will the plasma accept any resolution and just rescale the signal from the dvi->hdmi cable?
Are there any other issues that I might encounter?
