I just built a HTPC system and spent alot of cash. My system is:

Opteron X2 2.0 gig
1 gig OCZ ram
Asus motherboard
MSI Geforce 7600GT video card
Useing PureVideo as the filter and as the application for watching DVD movies
Windows XP pro SP2
All drivers are up to date

The problem is that when viewing the pic through TV out, on a normal TV - not high def, useing RCA cables, the picture movement isn't fluid. It's hard to explain but I'll try by saying the pic is kinda jagged, or grid like, causing a slight distortion in movement. I am useing a normal DVD movie that isn't a burn copy called Dead Man Campus as an example. I messed with all the adjustments in the Nvidia control panel to try and get rid of that problem but haven't been able to.

I decided to go with Nvidia and Pure Video because I have an Xbox(the first one) and I liked the DVD viewing qauility of it when watching movies on it(useing the same RCA cables). When I watch my movies off the Xbox the pic is alot sharper and has complete fluid movement. Since the first Xbox used a Nvidia graphics processor, isn't possible that I can obtain the same viewing qaulity of watching DVD movies useing a Geforce 7600GT as I can with the first Xbox?

Scaler problem, an HTPC is designed for S-Video or better. You'll get better results running configs similar to others here (ffdshow), but fundamentally it will always look funny. How do DVDs look on your monitor?

I still had the same problem on the CRT monitor....in fact it was even less smoother on the monitor and more wavy at certin times dureing the movie. I had inverse tecline on and it created some really bad side effects so I took it off. I also slid the noise filter down to 0 and that helped alot with the waveyness. It still has a bad wavy effect at certin points dureing the movie though(for instance...when looking at the guys face it looks like your looking at his face through gasoline fumes). What could cause this?

Download the trial version of ZPlayer with ffdshow and set it up as indicated in the stickied thread (go with the low performance recommended setup to start). It's probably related to PureVideo, that will differntiate causes.
