Hi,
I'm looking for an equalizer for my home stereo. Since my receiver does NOT have a tape monitor button, could I not simply connect my cd player to the eq's inputs the the eq output to the cd in on the receiver? In essence, running the cd sound thru the eq before it reaches the receiver. I realize this would only affect the cd player not radio, etc., but that's all I want it for anyway.
Thanks
p.s. Yeah I know eq's are not looked upon highly here. Just looking for an answer to the question.

I'd think that would work....

nothing wrong with doing it that way, and with most lower end systems, it's the only way it can be connected.

Thats great! Does anyone know of any that have coxial or toslink inputs and outputs? The only type I've been able to find are rca analog style.

I believe some of the pro audio units have digital in/out on them, not sure about any "consumer" grade stuff.
I've seen the Behringer DEQ1024 for under $200, and then there is the Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 that is also digital, but has lots more "stuff" than you probably need.
Not vouching for any level of performance, just providing a couple options that I know of.

Not only can you do that, but you can also connect the analog outputs of your cable box and dvd player to the eq - assuming you have more than one input. Then everything would be eq'd by choosing "cd" on your receiver and switching the different components via the eq.
You can still run digital outs to the other inputs on your receiver. So you'd have a choice - eq'd analog and non eq'd digital sound.

Thank you all for the help, I appreciate it. However the Behringer eq mentioned previously does not have the types of digital i/o that I need. Anyone seen any others or are they all pretty much analog? All the searches I've conducted, don't produce any with coaxial or optical connections.

To date, there's no way to eq a signal before it gets processed via DD or DTS - keeping it in the digital realm. If you want to eq a digital signal without interfering with the processing, you'll have to add an outboard amp, and run a multi channel eq between your AVR and surround amp. You must eq the signal after it's been converted back to analog with an external sound processor.

Are you sure?
I'm pretty confident the Beheringer does have RCA-style coaxial digital inputs....
Take a closer look at the picture - about in the middle of the unit, the red and white jacks labeled S/PDIF.

Yeah, I noticed the S/PDIF but when I saw that I was thinking more along the lines of a PC soundcard, not coaxial. Is that coaxial??
