Fujitsu Hitatchi recently announced 2 new plasmas 1080P Plasmas: FHP60V, and FHP50V. Some pretty impressive numbers ...

"50-inch 1080p sports an incredible 10000:1 contrast ration while the 60-inch 1080p lags behind with 5000:1 which is still very good. Brightness is 1100cd/m2 and 1000cd/m2 respectively. Glass on these plasmas is 1.8mm thick ( or thin ) versus 2.8. Less thickness provides less glare on the screen which is one of the shortcomings of plasma technology. "

I will be very interested in seeing the 50" unit. If the Sharp 1080P 52" LCD does not pan out this may be the display that I have been looking for.

Well thats great , I'm looking forward to this. I thought fujitsu was phasing their name out of plasmas and going with Hitachi only, guess not :D

Interesting - That 50" w AVM, 1080p, and top level contrast and thin glass may be a nice upgrade for yours truly. I've got a 42 and 60 or 65 is huge in my space. Getting Fuji processing improved blacks and reduced glare sounds nice, price may be an issue though relative to Panny65 1080p.

OH BOY! My situation has just changed dramatically. With the 65" 1080p Panny coming out and now the 60" Fujitsu, the road is getting harder to follow. But this brings up an interesting point, who's glass is Fujitsu using for the 60" model??? Also, if the picture is better on the Fujitsu than the Panasonic (past indicators would say yes), do I trim 5" from my anticipation of a 65" model for a better picture on a 60"? Life is complicated. ;)

OK, I just read the report and I see it's built on an "ALIS core". I'm not sure what that means, but if it follows past ALIS technology, the blacks will not be as good as non-ALIS panels. Although ALIS has improved over the years, they still lag in the area of black levels. If so, I'd scratch this Fujitsu off my shopping list.

Yeah but...Fujitsu doesn't claim the same 10000:1 contrast spec (not even close) on the e-alis panel they sell now - it is 1800:1.

Is it too early to get the dimensions for the 60" model?

Thanks for the link. I'll look forward to seeing the displays at some point. It did say MSRP for the 60 inch is 20,000 dollars. Not really gonna be a player in the market at that price, but I am sure its a nice display.

Hitachi and Panasonic are at the sweet price point spots with their 55 and 58 inch displays it appears.

The price that I have heard for the 50" plasma is some where near CA$11,000. That was from a Fujitsu dealer ... so that would be customer price.

With these prices compared to Panasonic all you can say is the more things change the more they stay the same. On the other hand if Fuji continues to lead in PQ they may still have a market to compete in. I am betting the 50" is Panny Glass which with AVMIII, 10:001-1 contrast in 1080p should be a knock out, the 60" though if Alis based will likely have some black level issues and I cant see it effectively competing with the Panny 65. One things for sure I'll be headed down to our local Fuji dealer in the Distillery District to check em out, this really is fun seeing the technology move to 1080p !

From this article it seems that the product is actually a 65" not 60" for what it is worth

The display they rate at the top was 65" ... they have a 50" coming out later this year or early next. Both are 1080P.
