Hello,
I have a 5080 with a lifetime activation and would like to activate a second 5040 with a month-to-month subscription. From what I read it sounds like I can't get the 6.95 pricing on the second since I have a lifetime on the first - is this correct? Is there anyone out there in this situation that has the 6.95 on the second unit? All I really want to do is stream from my 5080 to this 5040 in another room, and if I don't get the discount the 5040 stays dark or goes up for sale...
Thanks for any info,
DaveR

Never had a problem with this. Just go online and activate your 5040 under the same account as the lifetime and it'll bill at the lower rate. Where did you read that you would not get the 6.95 deal? (maybe there has been a recent change or something?)
I have 2 Lifetime units & 4 at the $6.95 rate
none at the $12.95 rate

Thanks!!!
Here is where I found the information: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/replaytv/multifaq.asp#lifetime
Basically it says "if you are lifetime, no 6.95 discount". I was hoping that isn't the case, but "ya just never know". If anything out there has a lifetime and doesn't have the discount on the second unit, I am still anxious to here from them (and more people as well, but it sounds promising).
THANKS ALL!

Hey, after reading it again, and finding this: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/dvr/multiunit.asp, I am sure I am fine (6.95 discount on the second unit).
I probably read the first FAQ wrong (it's kinda 'cornfusing if you ask me). Anyway, consider this closed.
Thanks again,

Ah yes, the part you were looking at initially was speaking on the actual cost of the lifetime fees. Some people would love it if you could get 1/2 off of your lifetime service fee when you add a 2nd lifetime unit (2nd unit lifetime = $150 instead of $299), but that's not the case (which is what that section is describing).
As you've found, the $6.95 monthly fee is the discount you are entitled to as a lifetime subscriber.

Thanks again for the post, arcadefreaque. I just wish there was a way to make these into "media extenders", meaning no recording capability just streaming units. I have an MCE 2005 machine and an Xbox 360, and with the 360 working as an extender it makes MCE a wonderful option. Heck, I'll probably be building another MCE 2005 machine so I can stream to it as well.
Question: should I ever hope for this setup: A replay that requires NO service activation but streams from other replays that are activated? I won't give up hope just yet, but there probably is very low probability of this occurring.
Question: should I ever hope for this setup: A replay that requires NO service activation but streams from other replays that are activated?
I would say the chance of a replayTV product that does this is nearly negative 99%.
If you're looking for a device that can stream from your replay recorder to any TV set, then there are a few options out there. There is a nifty streaming device that radio shack sold (can't remember the name right now), that can be setup to do this. I utilize hacked XBOXes for this purposes. I have a handful of xboxes that I modded just for this purpose using xBMC. It works great for my purposes, and actually helped me get several buddies hooked on replaytv (since I sold them my spare 5040's and 5500's that I didn't need due to replacing them with xboxes). xboxes are cheap and easy to hack/repair/etc too :)

I believe you are referring to the MediaMVP which can be loaded with firmware via dhcp that will allow it to interface with a replaytv.

Folks, this is not the ReplayTV upgrade thread, but the last post there was over a year ago.
I am trying to upgrade the HD on my 5040. I found a recommendation for the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3400632A. Well, it does not work. The unit keeps rebooting and the problem is not a grounding issue. Can anyone give me an up-to-date recommendation for a HD in the 400 GB size for my 5040?

My vote is for the MediaMVP. You can get them on the cheap (froogle says 80 bucks), and they stream very well. I haven't tried streaming audio and other media files, but in theory you can.

No problem. It's called DVArchive.
