There is no straight answer as there are many variables, plus there is personal preference.

At 10-11 feet the choices will normally be 42" or 50".

The main advantage of a 42" is that it hides the flaws of Standard Definition programming because it is a smaller screen. If you plan to watch alot of regular SD tv, then a 50" (or bigger) will show the flaws more. 42 inch screens tend to have a tighter sharper (better) picture in general, because the image is more compact.

The advantage of a 50" or bigger is the more immersive viewing experience. If you have a good source, such as high definition tv programming, DVD's or especially next gen DVD's (blu ray / HD-DVD), then you can appreciate the extra detail on the bigger screen.

How about strolling into BestBuy, step back 10-11 feet, and look at the televisions and see how you like the way they look. Remember that the tv's in the store will be playing a high definition signal.

There is none.

No matter what anyone links you, there is none.

It's entirely up to you because at that distance, I'm sure you'll find reasonable people telling you that 65 inches works. But so does 40. I have a 37 that is farther. Of course, I'd like a bigger screen, but there isn't one. I can still see tons of detail in HD programming and enjoy watching TV, DVDs, etc.

You need to go to a store and stand 10-11 feet from TVs and pick a size you like.

Period.
