View Full Version : considering dish network
I have 2 replaytv's 55xx and absolute love them. I am considering moving to dish network and want to make sure that I am going to be able to continue to use the replaytvs since I paid for the lifetime subscription on both.
anyone had any problems? will the IR codes be defined and easily setup or will I need to create my own codes and upload them to the 55xx? It looks like that is possible.
thanks,
bill
I've had Dishnetwork for several years and the only problem is when the ReplayTV switches to an unsubscribed channel. This usually is either an IR Blaster or an operator error problem. When it happens the Dish receiver will not change channels until an up/dn key is entered from the dish remote.
Do a search for "dishnetwork" and either "Mikeboy" or "Flip Flop" as the member. One or the other had fixed the problem and there is a fairly long thread on the subject.

Yeah. The replay will occasionally - but not very often at all it seems - switch to channels that you don't subscribe to. This happens SO rarely, especially now that I use WIRNS and remove all the channels that I dont want or subscribe to.
I ditched Dish for Comcast because Comcast made an offer I could not refuse. One of my recievers with Dish was AMAZING in its quality. The other was spotty and Dish never made it right. YMMV.
I loved and hated Dish. Comcast's video quality isn't as good, but now I have four recievers and high speed Internet for what it cost me for 1 reciever that was great, and one that worked half the time.

If you're thinking about dish, consider directv. One huge advantage of using directv with Replay is serial control of channel change. There's a huge list of serial compatible D* receivers
I've used three Hughes GCEB0 receivers (awesome -- the best SD receiver I've ever had), a Sony receiver (not bad), and am now using their H20 high-def recever (with dosman's adapter) to drive one of my replays.
