I coped the MPEG partition from a working 250GB Maxtor disk to a Maxtor 500GB 6H500R0 The new disk was stuck at "Please Wait..." I jiggled and fiddled, and then tried re-patching it. No go.

I thought of trying to re-copy the system partition, but RTVPatch seems to indicate that that'll wipe out the whole disk. I'd really like to try to salvage the two days of copying it took to move my shows over :D

If the answer is to just nuke the disk and start fresh, is there any other way to try to copy shows over? Can I manually create a partition of the correct type and copy files? I should be able to do that much faster without using dd to copy the whole partition.

EDIT: I just copied the system partition to another Maxtor 6H500R0 and patched it, and it sits at the "Please Wait..." screen, too. Has anyone successfuly used one of these disks in a 5XXX?

i don't think that drives with 16mb buffer will work. The drive you are trying to use has a 16mb buffer according to the maxtor website.
I tried to upgrade recently to a new dimondmax 10 drive (which had 8mb buffer) and it was hanging up on the maintanace boot at the please wait screen. Went back to a dimondmax 9 with 8mb buffer and it has been running fine.
It may be that none of the diamondmax 10 drives work regardless of the size of the buffer.
