View Full Version : Has anyone used a Maxtor 6H500R0 in a 5XXX?
I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure if these drives will or will not work.

i don't think that drives with 16mb buffer will work. This drive has a 16mb buffer according to the maxtor website.

Any idea if these would be likely to work any better?

I'm not particularly fond of Hitachi disks.
Maybe I'll look around for Seagates...

not sure. i have only used maxtor or western digital drives in mine. but the most recent maxtor that i tried (a diamond max 10 with 8mb cache) did not work. it kept getting stuck on "please wait" after a maintenance reboot and i would have to power cycle it to get it to reboot correctly. I went back to a diamondmax 9 and have not had a problem since.

In the past, Hitachi disks have worked fine in all ReplayTV's except the 4k/45xx which wouldn't see them for some reason. There have been posts by members indicating definate succuess with the Hitachi 400GB version of the drive you just posted.
And if it doesn't work, feel free to take out all your frustrations on the Tivo owner of your choice.

OK, thanks for the info!
When you say "DiamondMax 9", you mean only ones with 8MB, right? Pretty much any 16MB disk won't work?
Damn "progress" :D

that's just the model of the drive. check out the specs here:

the diamond max 10 that i tried had an 8mb buffer but it still did not work. i'm not sure if others have had success with the diamond max 10 or not. it may also be hard to find a diamond max 9. im not sure if they are still making them.
