My father-in-law is looking to buy a new display - he wants a 1080p display, and he wants it to be 50" or bigger. A few questions:

(1) Is the Panasonic TH-65PX600U basically his only option?
(2) Given his willingness to pay for performance, is there any reason *not* to recommend he go with this set?

He's set on a flat screen, so projectors (rear or front) are not an option.

Many thanks for your thoughts!

Dave

No it isn't. Pioneer has an awesome 50" panel. (but don't tell bladerunner ;) ) And Panasonic has just released a commercial equivalent of the 65" consumer model.

Thanks, YoBob. I'll check out the Pioneer as well, though my guess is that unless there is really bad buzz around the Panasonic, my father in law will go with the larger unit.

Please, let me know if anyone thinks this would be a bad decision, or if there are better choices to be made in this size/resolution category....

Thanks for the advice, as always!

If price is no option, the fujitsu are very highly rated, and have a few models larger than 50".

Are there any Fujitsu 1080p models in that large size?

I've read on other threads that there is a 65" 1080p Fujitsu coming out near the end of the year. It is supposed to have an amazing picture. The MSRP for the display is 20,000. They are hoping street price will be considerably less.
