The wife factor states that our TV is working fine there is no reason to upgrade.
So I want to overload my 32 CRT so I can upgrade to larger set because its would cost to much to fix it.

Any ideas?

Sure, here's a thread that had many of us looking for ways to do it:

Of course, it might be best to just disable it and then sell it to some avid gamer needing a 32" CRT.

Buy a manual degauser from ebay. Plug it in and wave it in front of the set for a few seconds and turn it off. That should make the picture unwatchable. You can also try a large magnet.

Deception. What an excellent foundation you've built your marriage on.

Why not try the truth instead? Explain why you want one, how it fits the budget, etc. If you're not much of a toy guy to begin with, use that, too. Feel free to throw that knucklehead friend of yours under the bus--y'know, the one she never liked anyway, the single guy with a jetski, two snowmobiles, four TVs, a $1200 grill, etc.? Show the contrast. And give up something else if you have to. Something selfish that you know she'd like for you to give up anyway.

Sell the idea, man. Don't break the set. Don't lie. Sell, sell, sell.

What's more important--your wife, your integrity, and your word...or your television? (What does it profit the man who gains the world but loses his soul???)

Of course, if you have friends who have HD tv's (whether CRT or those others...hehe) take your wife there when they have Desparate Housewives on in HD (or Men in Trees etc). She'll love the wide, gorgeous picture...

It's sorta like buying the Logitech Harmony remote...once the spouse sees that all they have to do it push one button on one controller...it's not a hard sell at all

Whew, that sounds like a drastic measure to me. If it were me I'd just keep on trying to convince her that a HDTV would be better.

Agreed!.....Why wreck a perfectly good TV? There's probably lots of folks who'd be happy to take the set off your hands....for a rasonable price, of course....! :D
