I bought my 50" Panasonic at Costco back in February 2006. It has been a GREAT TV, with a beautiful picture. However, just within the last week it has developed a problem that is driving me nuts. Occassionally when I turn it on, the picture goes out after a few seconds. It's as if it's slipping into some kind of sleep mode or something. (The red power light flashes when this happens.) I've tried a few tricks, including unplugging it and letting it rest for an hour or so. It's somewhat intermittent but has happened about four times over the past week.
Whaddya think?

I think you should go back to Costco and get you a new one. Don't they have like a great return policy or something like that?

I would take it back to Costco, or you might try calling Panasonic...it is still under one year warranty, isn't it? Something is obviously wrong. Do you ahve PX60U or PX600U model?

If it was from Costco, then he has the lower 6U model

It's broken. A well known Panasonic problem. Get Panasonic to fix it or get Costco to exchange it, your choice.

I believe a Feb. 06 purchase would be a 50/500 series as the 60 series became available in March. There is no well known shut down problem in these that I am aware of.

Ah quite true. Just the same, it will not heal itself without the kind assistance of a service tech if it is blinking ...
Yeah, unfortunately sounds like a bad board somewhere.
Attached is a breakdown of the different patterns and the boards involved.

I've read here a few times that the TV manufacturers work out a deal with Costco where they'll take back any TVs that are returned to Costco and give them full credit, but in return these TVs do not have a factory warranty and will tell you to return it to Costco for replacement or refund instead. Anybody know if this is true? It would suck if they didn't have a suitable or acceptable replacement, but getting a full refund would be good because the newer TVs are less expensive and you can probably get a better or bigger TV with your refund.
