I'm a bit of a novice to car audio installation, but know a little bit about it. I'm having some trouble with a new subwoofer that I bought and am not sure if it's from a defective sub or an incorrect hook up problem. I have a Jensen Pro model 1220M Mono amplifier that when wired at 2 ohms is supposed to have 265 watts RMS. I used to have a 300 watts RMS 10" sub that worked with it just great for a couple years till the tinsel leads finally snapped. Then I bought a 10" Kicker CompVR sub that is a dual-voice coil and 4 ohms. It says that it's 300 watts RMS and I wired it in parallel to the amp so it was running at 2 ohms. It worked and sounded great for about a week, then started smoking seems to have overheated and blew the fuses on the amp. So is the problem the sub was faulty or was there a problem with the amp? I know that the amp can only go up to 265 rms, and the speaker is 300, but is that a big enough difference to cause a problem? I'm not really sure what caused the problem or how to solve it, does anyone know what happened?
