I want to run a SINGLE HDMI cable to my plasma TV (when I get it!)... the idea being, that I can plug everything into the reciever, and have it translate all audio and video even if the input is from s-video or component, to the HDMI interface out to the TV.

First, is what I'm asking possible? And second... what reciever do you recommend? I don't need anything crazy, just a reasonable reciever that is reliable and nothing else :)

Thanks all!

EDIT: Upped the price a bit since I from searching I know I won't get anything good :)

Are there any Harmon Kardon ones? I was a big fan of HK back in the day :)

The new Yamaha RX V2700 sounds good - it uses the Anchor Bay technology for scaling. I am not sure if it is out yet; anyone know? Price? Here is an info link:

In this price range check out HK AVR-445/AVR-645. Not sure, if they upconvert to HDMI though. You will be able to find some threads for these on this forum. I think, I saw some threads mentioning some issues with HDMI on these models.

Yes. It is out and available. I think RX-V2700 will be in $1200+ price range.
