I went to pick up a DVD upconverter player only - and in trying to get a big box store guy to talk to me, waited for a half hour before I decided to leave. Decided I should do Something since I waited so long, so i got me a Phillips DVP5960, looked like the best of the worlds, Samsung was a bit higher $ and the sony higher than that, for what I could tell was just the name.
I was torn between the Phillips and the Toshiba SD4990 next to it, both 80$. I decided on the phillips because of the USB, but after I got home, I did read it does not support DTS.
Now thats a deal breaker! I settled for Coax out only because I liked the USB, but then I have an Xbox 360 thatll do basically the same. I dont have many divx any more either so..
My real question is, does it pass DTS through to a Receiver if I hook it up with Coax digi. or will it just not play DTS tracks at all. I thought it wouldnt down sample DTS -> stereo for analog output, from what I remember when I was buying my old DVD player with component output.
SO which is it? If itll pass it to my receiver, fine, I dont care about DTS on stereo setting, but I refuse to have it with my 5.1 receiver only getting DD if I have a choice. If it doesnt, I think ill get the Toshy instead.

The 5960 has new firmware that corrects the DTS problem. This has been discussed quite a bit at the videohelp forums. - DR
