I just got the Denon dvd-3930ci :p and as a display I am using the 2005 model of the Sony SXRD television which does not accept a 1080p signal. It upconverts all signals to 1080p.

My question is should I be able to hook up both the component video (Y,CR,CB) and the HDMI cable at the same time and switch back and forth to do a side by side comparison on which looks better? The reason why I am asking this is that I tried this and the hdmi will not turn on in the dvd setup. Another thing that confuses me is that I have the component video set to come out of the dvd player at 1080p and my television seems to be accepting it when it should not.

I'm not sure what you mean by "HDMI will not turn on" for you in the setup, but if HDMI is enabled on the 3930CI, the component output is 480i no matter what it's set to in the configuration menus.

What I mean by HDMI will not turn on is......When you press the setup menu for the dvd player, there is an option to turn on or off the HDMI.

Also, I was under the impression that this dvd player will output higher resolutions then 480i thru the HDMI cable.
