Hello,
Noob here. I looked all over for a repair forum/section and couldn't find one, please let me know if I've posted this in the right place. Also, please don't laugh at my crappy EDTV as I use it as a computer monitor more than anything. I bought the floor model when the store was closing and it was less than half price with no burn in, connected to a huge APC power regulator and not placed anywhere that sunlight would reach it. So I made my gamble and took it home for less than half price. It worked great for several years.
It's a Gateway EDTV GTWP46M103 46" plasma and it will not show any digital input. DVI, VGA, and RGB signals are simply not showing on the screen even though the set will let me select those inputs from the menus and even shows the little input graphic as it searches for the signal.
The yellow old school analog input still works so the set is not a complete loss I guess. The picture is still good and the set operates normally other than not displaying digital inputs.
I carefully removed the rear panel hoping to find the burnt molex connector which seems to plague other gateway models. No luck, all power connectors look good and are snug and in place.
Looks like the video input board is in 2 parts, a smaller part for the DVI and VGA while the SVHS, RGB, cable TV tuner, and analog inputs are on a second larger board. I'm rather surprised that the analog still works since it shares a board with other inputs that are not working. On the analog input it can still autodetect refresh rate as well as color or monochrome. You'd never know this set has a problem until you try to use the other video inputs.
I have called several repair shops and everyone agrees that the set most likely needs a new board. I've been told that Gateway plasma parts are very hard to come by though.
First and foremost I am trying to figure out who made this set as I know it's simply rebranded as Gateway. Maybe it'a a Sampo? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Since I don't have a high def DVD player or HDTV service this EDTV suits my needs just fine for watching DVDs and using the computer.
I can take pics or get part numbers off of the boards if that will help with diagnosis.
If there is a plasma repair forum where this would be more appropriate please let me know. Thank you SO MUCH in advance for any help with this!!!
