View Full Version : Screen Size Question
Today I turned on CBS to watch the Colts game and noticed that the signal was HD mode. The problem I am having is the picture is 75% of the screen size, meaning the sides of the pictures just have a blue screen. Anyone have an idea why this might be? The other channels, which are not HD fill up the entire screen.

the colts game is not in hd today in chicago, you may have the same problem. the signal will say hd (as far as I know, if it's an hd channel, the signal will always be hd) but it's just upconverted, thus the side bars. I'm guessing the 'other' non-hd channels you are referring to are using a stretch mode to fill the screen.
The weird thing is, the programming tonight, the movie that was on at like 10 est, was full screen, but the commericals were sized.
Thats normal if the movie was broadcast in HD but commercials are normally SD so they have side-bars.

CBS seems to have very little (if any) football games in HD.

It was either an SD broadcast being carried on your HD channel or 480i being up converted to (pretend) HD, both formats are common among broadcasters.
