View Full Version : DScaler and Sound Problems
With a new public release due out shortly and lots of problems relating to sound on the forum I thought I'd take the time to explain DScaler's support for sound both now and going forward.
the bt848 chip is very flexible in terms of what it can do for video and there is very little leeway for card hardware designers to muck about with the video end. This is why it is usually very easy to add support for new cards based on the bt8x8 chips.
For sound things get much more complicated.
The Different ways sound is supported
1) Mono sound from the tuner is passed to the bt chip. If you have a mono card then this way should work. I will try and resolve issues related to sound on mono cards.
2) NICAM Stereo (Europe) MSP Chip. These cards have an MSP chip and some support is in DScaler for these cards. I have no test setup for this but accept patches for changes to get NICAM working. I have reports that it works on some European NICAM broadcasts. I think it doesn't work on UK Nicam.
3) BTSC Stereo (US) MSP Chip. There is currently no support for these cards. After a bit of research it seems that these cards will only play stereo when in a mode that is not implemented in the bttv code that the sound support was taken from. This will be addressed in later versions. There is already a large backlog of changes required but this is on the list.
4) Other. Some hw manufacturers have used other chips and ways of supporting sound. These are not supported now and probably won't be unless someone else writes or ports the code. Patches to support specific cards will be accepted once I have implemented a new design for sound support. This should make it easier to add support for new cards.
Workarounds
The most basic workaround is not to use the onbaord tuner :)
This is one used by most of the users of DScaler and explains why sound tends to take a back seat in priority.
Sometimes running the supplied TV tuner app before or after Dscaler can help. Note that if you are using an hauppague card then Dscaler 3.1.0 will include a card type of "Standard bt848 (No init MSP)" that will not touch the MSP on startup which should make the card behave as it did in version 2.3.0.
Using the Mixer
DScaler now also supports controling the mixer and can mute lines when channels are changed or when DScaler exits.
The mixer set dialog canm be accessed from Hardware/Audio Mixer Setup.
It allows you to specify which mixer lines are to be controlled by DScaler and which ones are to be unmuted when a given input is selected.
If "Reset Mizer to Initial Settings on Exit" is selected then it returns the mixer to the state it was when Dscaler started, if off then all the mixers lines that have been selected are muted on exit.
Still got a problem
We should use this thread to collect all sound issues and to categorize peoples problems into
1) Bug I will fix now
2) Bug I will fix later
3) Bug I will never fix
4) Not a problem

This is a helpful thread, so I'm bumping it up.
The STB TV cards have a different sound chip which means that they fall into category 4 in board design and that support for them will not be added by the main DScaler team. We would welcome any developers who want to add support for these cards. The code for the support of these cards is in the bttv driver but porting that code to DScaler is not trivial.

Forgive the clarification request, but I want to see if I've got this right.
I have a standard PCI WinTV card. I'm assuming it has a BTSC Stereo MSP chip. The code incorporated by dscaler for doing sound does not implement what needs to be done to enable stereo sound on this card.
The WinTV app that comes with the card knows how to make the proper calls to setup the card properly. If you run and exit some WinTV app, it will leave the card in the proper setup.
When dScaler runs, if you can convince it to leave the card alone (no init MSP), you'll get stereo sound fine.
I remember reading a thread with a complicated set of steps to get (stereo?) sound on dScaler. With the new release, is it just a matter of running WinTV2000 and then exiting it before starting dScaler (with 'no init MSP')? Or is there more to it than that?
Thanks for the clarification!
Mike
Mike
I hope the workaround will work as you suggest with the new version. The init MSP is basically what broke that work around in the first place. (The reinit seems to be required for European users however)

Can you tell me what compiler you are using to build DScaler with and are there any existing compilation instructions out there? I'd like to see if I could port the code for sound on my card from the bttv driver (which works). I'm used to dealing with Makefiles and such (from Linux), and am not familiar with Windows compilers.
Lou
To compile DScaler you need MS Visual Studio 6.0 with the processor pack add-on(free) which in turn requires service pack 5.
There is a readme in the DScaler directory of the source zip that describes everything you need to compile all the source.
We already have someone looking into porting the code from bttv but work will not start until we have a clean design for card support, this is a few weeks away at the moment.

Sigh, I hate asking RTFM questions like this, but I haven't been able to find a solution anywhere.
I have a Hauppauge PVR card (Philips 1216 tuner, Std Brooktree 878) and can't get any sound through Dscaler at all. All the parameters are correctly setup in the Hardware info, and I'm using the latest drivers. If I set the audio input to tuner and the MSP/Radio setting to Terrestial TV, I get hiss coming through the speakers. ANY other setting (and I think I've tried them all) produces no sound at all.
I tried using Std Brooktree 878 (No init MSP), running WinTV2000, closing that then opening DScaler. This produced exactly the same situation.
I have the audio from the PVR linked to line-in on my sound card. I set all the tabs on the mixer to 'line-in'.
Audio works fine using the WinTV2000 app, but I've run out of options for DScaler. Has anyone managed to get audio to work on this using a PVR card?

I have a Hauppauge WinTV PCI-FM (bt878). After starting up DScaler 3.1.0, sound is horrible. I have very loud noise with the selected channels sound somewhere behind it. When I set it to FM radio and then back to TV terrestrial, sound is fine, but after a short while, it suddenly drops back to the state it was in at startup. It seems to me that DScaler is resetting the sound chip from time to time or forgets about some settings.

Any solution? Well how about using a VCR as the tuner and feed it to your capture card. Then use the VCR audio to feed your reciever.
John,
Thanks for the update as I've been scratching my head why the audio output with my IOMagic PCPVR and Dscaler 3.1 has always been mono. This might help explain why IOMagic always insisted the NTSC tuner on the card supports stereo.

STB Tv Tuner Pro v2.13 (no FM)
Video and Sound worked in Dscaler as long as the STB software was installed on the machine. This was great in Win98, but in WinXP the STB software will not install correctly nor will it run. So this means no sound in Dscaler.
This leads me to believe one of two things:
1. The STB software initializes the hardware at System start up, and this allows Dscaler to take advantage of the hardware at any time.
or
2. Dscaler merely calls on the vxd's, ocx's, dll's (that are present due to the STB software install) at program run. In XP these files aren't all there.
BTW other capture software runs in XP, but won't even let me select the STB card as a device - says "that device is in use...". I just wonder what driver files all these programs are looking for, or need to be already initilized in order to see the hardware.

Any solution? Well how about using a VCR as the tuner and feed it to your capture card. Then use the VCR audio to feed your reciever.I'm already doing that! Believe it or not, I'm not that stupid! I was wondering if there was an ALL HTPC solution. I don't want to have to turn On the VCR tuner, tune to the correct channel, and switch the AVreceiver function to VCR. I'd like to be able to tune the video AND AUDIO signal using the Hauppauge PVR card's tuner. I know, call me "picky" :D -Pat
I have a Pinnacle PCTV Pro card. All is working fine when I am receiving in Pal B/G, but with stations broadcasting in Pal D/K I have only noise. How I can switch DScaler to receive in Pal D/K? Thx for help.

I had this same problem - if you set the sound from stereo to mono it will work fine - but instead of the drop-outs to static, I get drop outs from 2 channels to one.
(make sure you turn off the automatic detect stereo also).
I had the best luck with the Phillips NSTM_M (Mk2) for my tuner selection. (Hauppauge 401 Bt878/US)

Yesterday I stumbled into dscaler and I was amazed !!!! its an excellent program, actually the best I've seen so far
However there is no sound no matter what I've tried
the programm states that I have no msp hw
the trick on running the original prog first doesnt work ... (am running win2000)
I have the PixelView Play TV + FM
878 chip and Philips fm 1216 tuner
any help would be appreciated
Just to let you all know that the sound issues are currently being worked on by the finest DScaler minds. The way it is looking at the moment we should be able to support sound on pretty much every card with troubleshooting being easier as well hopefully.
All these changes will take a while to test and sort out but we are progressing.
I would expect some test releases fairly early in the new year.
John
after posting the last message I tried something (accidentaly?)
I have tried the atv2000 prog which is also a nice one...
when u exit the app it leaves an icon in the task bar and the prog is still active
if I launch dscaler it works with sound !!!!
not the best solution
but it will do for now

I'd been having similar problems after installing DScaler 3.1.0. After fiddling with the settings I stumbled upon ones that work at least in mono for my system with no white noise in the sound
To get it working I'm using
Settings -> Audio Input = Tuner
Hardware -> MSP/Radio -> TV Terrestrial FM-mono + FM-stereo
Hardware -> MSP/Radio -> Major Carrier = PAL I
Hardware -> MSP/Radio -> Minor Carrier = PAL B/G Nicam Stereo
Hardware -> MSP/Radio -> Mono
with no Auto Stereo adjustment
I've no idea why the PAL I setting works when intuitively I should be using PAL BGH but it seems to!

For those in the same boat as me, you might want to check out another Bt8x8 driver being developed at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/. I have one of these cards and with this driver now have sound udner DScaler and BorgTV with my card, under Windows XP. So far I cannot capture video AND audio, just video, and it doesn't initialize sound under Windows Media Maker.
My post on how to get sound from the STB TV+FM PCI tuner card is here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=720184#post720184).
For those with other cards that sound doesn't work in DScaler, you might still want to check out the driver, as it is the ONLY thing so far under Windows that supports the audio on my card. It is based on the bttv driver and has an advanced configuration option during install that lets you manually specify the chips on your card. I had to do this for mine, you might be able to do it for yours and get sound from DScaler. Worth a shot, especially if you DON'T have an MSP sound chip.

My hardware is as follows:
GeForce2 GTS
ATI TV Wonder
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
When I use dscaler, everything works mine. The TV sound is fine, and the program is great. My problem is that when I switch to composite, the tv tuner sound is still in the background and I can't hear the composite's sound. Anyone have a solution for this?

Just thought I'd throw in my problem. Audio works fine with my ATI TV Wonder VE but when I close dScaler down the audio continues to play.
I've checked all my audio hardware and mixer settings and everything seems fine. I've got line in muted in my sound card app prior to starting dScaler and the mixer setup set to "Reset mixer to original settings on exit" so the audio is muted on exit but the signal is still there. Not a big problem, but there you have it.

I have a Leadtek Winview601TV-FM (Bt848). I'm using DScaler with WinXP and I am very satisfied with the image quality - the problem is that I don't hear the sound. Luckily I found out that if I install the BorgTV program and set the TV tuner model and sound source (Line In) in its preferences I'm able to hear sound from DScaler! The only thing I have to do is to start the BorgTV, press F4, choose [again] the TV tuner model from the drop-down menu, close the program and start DScaler. Voila! :)

I have a Tuner card manufactured by STB with stereo sound, and FM tuner. The Gateway model number on the back is 6000699, it has a Bt848 ship with a TEA6300, TDA9850, and a tiny TDA1308 sound ships.
Ok, heres what you have to do:
Get the driver at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/contact.html
Run the installer and pick STB as the card, and Phillips NTSC tuner.
Go to the advanced options and put TEA6300 and TDA9850 on. Turn the rest off. Pick your country, and install.
I know there are a lot of people with STB cards that dont work. If you dont have the card i have, its really easy to get this driver to install.
Before you put the card in your comp, write down all the chips that it uses. Look on the card, and write down the first line of all the chips.
If it has a Bt848 driver, pick STB as the card, if it has a Bt878, pick STB 2. Pick Phillips NTSC As the tuner. Now, click on advnaced and turn on all the chips that you wrote down before. If you have chips that arnt i nthe list, ignore them. Turn all the rest off, and continue with the install.
After its installed, use amcap.exe to ge the sound to init. (get that at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/contact.html too) WHILE its open, open Dscaler (thats all i have tested) and the minimize amcap.exe. (It will basicly lock up)
Thats it!
Hope all this helps every one with STB cards (and others)
I just can't seem to get it right. First...the video quality of dscaler is fathoms better than ati mmc. But now to my issue. I'm trying to get video AND AUDIO from the a/v composite connectors on a camera. When I select video source as composite, no matter what I do with audio, I still get audio from the tuner. I can't seem to get the audio from the composite connector.
Specs:
DSCaler 3.1.0
ATI TV-Wonder (with lates WDM drivers)
VIA AC97 sound card
Audio from the TVW is connected via the audio out on the tv card to the line-in on the sound card.
I have set everything under mixer setup to line-in. I've tried every audio setting I can find. Still comes from the tv tuner, no matter which video source is selected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA TIA

Very same problenms w/ dscaler 3.1 and TV Wonder:
MONO sound (Stereo in MMC 7.1)
TUNER sound even whe Composite is selected...
I have a Pinnacle Studio PCTV and my sound is thin and poor. I don't know if it's mono or stereo, but it just sounds bad.
Other than that it's fine, video is excellent and the audio was fine with the Pinnacle applications. But I don't use them anymore now that DScaler has entered the picture
Could it be related to the MSP-thingie?

That is the same as on my STB TV+FM PCI tuner card. I used Eduardo Tagle's driver (link in previous post). When installed I select the PHLIPS 1236D ATSC/NTSC Input 2. This is the same entry I use in DScaler 4.0 and it works great.

You'll probably get a lot of lockups and blue screens.
I looked around for it when I had people telling me the problems I had with 3.x were fixed in 4.0. It looks promising, but it's VERY alpha. Stick with 3.x for now. MONO is the least of your worries.

I have version 4.0 build 4356 and my problem is, when dscaler starts it mutes the wave/directsound part of my soundcard. In the earlier version it was not muted automatically. I could not find anywhere in the settings to turn this option off. Although I am assuming this is a new feature to turn other sounds off coming from Windows, but I think it should be made an option to mute it or not to mute it. Personally I like to hear for example when AIM+ has someone signing off or on.
Although I am assuming this is a new feature to turn other sounds off coming from Windows
No this time it is a bug and no feature.
It has been fixed already. The next release of DScaler will have this fix.

Just wanted to say, I installed 4.0 on my extremly stable, PII266 system, with Haupauge's WinTV with FM PCI card both 1997 releases. This system however sports 392 Megs PC100, Promise 2 Meg cached ATA133 Raid, 3 Maxtor 7200 RPM 80 Gig IDE, ATI Radeon 32sdr PCI. Though the CPU and PCI style Videocard, as well as the PC100 Ram are areas needing more power soon, this machine running Windows 2000 Pro does many, many things a PII system under 300 or 500 Mhz is simply not supposed to be able to do comfortably. I will be trying a faster machine after Christmas, with at least a PIII or Athlon chip, and the new ATI 9700 Pro. This system is a dedicated entertainment center, installed in the family room with an old model Destiantion 31" monitor, we use it instead of TV, and alt-tab to the web from your favorite show on the couche is very sweet, the faster CPU and Video will be to allow more filters in the Dscaler to be running, not that the picture isn't great already. Anyway, the internal audio wire from the Wintv to my SBLive! 5.1 card, some EAX tweaks, and Output to Pioneer's VSX511s A/V Reciever allows good sound without problems, but if a fix is written to allow me proper decoding of Dolby, and Dolby Digital in the futuer I wouldn't complain. All in all though I believe if Dscaler 4 runs with no problems on this machine it should only seem logical it would run better and faster on a faster PC. So it seems to me the setup of peoples hardware, and the stability of softwares other than Dscaler would be making people have problems, the software does not have any kind of problems on my equipment at all.
Keep up the good work Dscaler team...........:)

I have read the entire "DScaler and Sound Problems" thread and have tried everything to get sound from my STB TV PCI card (Gateway #6000704) with WindowsXP and using DScaler (3.1 and 4.0). I'm still not having any luck! Is there a "fool-proof" driver out there yet which I might have missed?
One other general question.
On the internal part of the card, I noticed an "Audio-Out" jumper connector. Should I connect a jumper cable from it to my SBLive card? If so, where might I purchase one of these cables which splits (so I can maintain the connection to my modem).

I finally got sound with my STB PCI TV-tuner Bt878 card (Gateway 6000704) with Windows XP.
I followed the instructions you posted on the "Home Theatre/dTV: tuner/sound support" thread, dated 12-04-01. This finally loaded my drivers correctly, but I still didn't get sound until I followed the added intructions by Cosmotic in the this thread, dated 04-01-02. (Note: I also added a jumper cable from the sound card to the TV-tuner card inside the computer.)
Questions:
Has anyone found a better solution since the cosmotic 12-04-01 reply?
Is there a way to eliminate the verticle fuzzy lines/bands on some channels (the Pixel Width option will change them, but not eliminate them)?

Dreambill,
Personally I think Windows XP sucks, because it takes much of the control over the operation of your PC out of your hands. Windows 2000 Pro on the other hand I enjoy very much, it is very stable, and allows allot of tweaking to be done without negative feedback. Anyway, if you like XP, it's up to you, it's your PC, and your preference. The sound will work if set to tuner as source, of if not, try an external attachment to your sound card, or check for internal attachement capabilities, like the CD uses, an internal patch from my tuner card to my sound card with the same type of internal audio as the CD is how I set mine up.
Hope some of this makes sense to ya,
Liontech:)

Just want to express my thanks to the dscaler development folks. I have been enjoying perfect stereo surround sound for the past couple of months with dScaler 4.01 through a Haupauge WinTV model 401 card for the first time. I guess the numbers had to match :-) Note that it is necessary to select "Bt Card / Audio Input / Use Input Pin 1" and it helps to select "Bt Card / MSP 34x0 Audio Settings / Volume and Tone" and move volume to the top (1000). This is an old system using Windows 98 if that is relevant.

As Jerry states here, it appears to be possible to get stereo sound through dScaler 4.x with a Hauppauge Win TV model 401 tuner/capture card. Has anyone had any experience with the Hauppauge model 495 (Win TV-Theater)? It offers Dolby Prologic Surround Sound output.
I couldn't find any reference to the Win TV Theater at the dScaler "supported cards" (http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/card-support/index.htm) page.
The intended OS for my HTPC is either W2K or XP depending on feedback from this forum.

Anyone who is interested....
I have an STB TVPCI card working flawlessly in Win xp.
I found the drivers on driverguide.com as win 2000 drivers with a
self installer. Even the sound works!! file was named stb.exe
All I did was run the program,
follow the directions and I had no problems whatsoever.
Previously I had to boot to win98 to (apparently) initialize the card
after a shutdown, then reboot to xp
No more. :-)

I must say, Dscaler ver.4 alpha works very good on my athlon system.
Windows XPPro SP1, ATI TVWonder VE (philips tuner, BT8x8 chip), ati twwonder drivers, air antenna, PAL DK tv channels.
only, small glitch - when exiting Dscaler, it doesnot reset tuner, so tv sound remains on. how to fix this?

Im not sure what I did to get it to stop. Perhaps nothing. In any case, mine does now shut off the mixer when you exit. I think I have ver 3.x
One thing that still happens to me though: if I use IE while dScaler is up, my system usually (always?) becomes very unhappy and hangs when I exit dScaler. 99% of the time if I haven't fired up IE, it exits gracefully.

Works (the alpha version - no sound at all from the v. 3) also very well under XP HE sp1. My third WinTV card so far - this one is model 747. The previous ones were older and came with a camera - neither gave stereo sound with dscaler and were troublesome in other ways too. dScaler compensated some of the problems the cards or the drivers had. I'm wondering what is the silly sound that comes up if I'm listening to a cd and decide to fire up dcaler while listening to music? The soundcard is set to digital output if that makes any difference so there will be no sound from tv with that setting - exept that weird sound. Sounds like slowed down human uttering. I think I heard it when the desktop loaded too - bizarre:-)

Hey. I've been using this ATI TV Wonder PCI for a while. It definitely looks much better in DScaler than in ATI's app. I'm currently using ATI's latest beta drivers. In DScaler 3.1, I can only use the audio in mono; when I set it to stereo there is static. In version 4.01 alpha, stereo works fine. But... when I start it, I briefly hear static and then sound cuts off. To turn it on I go to 'Setup Card / Tuner' and cancel, then I reselect stereo mode. It works flawlessly after that and only cuts off if I select a sound mode again. I'm unsure exactly why DScaler does this, but it seems like a simple problem. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help. Thanks.

My ATI-TV Wonder PCI PAL works fine with W2K and Dscaler 3.10, however with Dscaler 4.0.1 I cannot see the menu for selecting the NICAM sound setting like in 3.10 (Hardware -> MSP/Radio) ? Where is the setting for this in 4.0.1? Thanks!

I've got a problem when installing the WDM drivers (btwdmdrvinstaller5.3.6-1.zip). I have a STB DesktopTV card with a Philips NTSC tuner. I'm running WinXP Pro. My problem is that when I try to install the drivers my computer crashes and restarts automatically. Do you have any idea why this might be? I looked around the web, but could not find anyone posting the same problem. There was another guy that had his computer crash when installing Bt848.sys, which I think it is my problem, since when I installed the drivers without Bt848.sys in the folder and it asked me to locate it, and I did the system crashes immediately. BTW, WinXP gives me the alert about the drivers not having the Windows Logo approval or whatever, I obviously disregard that, I'm assuming everyone has to do that.
Using D-Scaler and messing around with the options (I had to manually found one that would give me an image) I've managed to get video, but not audio. I've read that no support for the STBs is out yet, so I guess I would have to wait, I was just wondering if it had something to do with the Bt848.sys.
I really don't know much about TV Cards and had this one for a while when I was running Win98SE, then I upgraded to WinXP and I gave up trying to make it work, now that I have some time (after over a year of having the card in a bag) I would like to get it back online. If you have any ideas, I would really appreciate the help. If I need to post any other information, please let me know and I'll try to get it, thanks!

I also got Problems with the sound. I have the TerraTec TerraTV+ Card, latest Drivers and DScaler 3.1. When i start the software i hear no sound (with the programm from terratec it works fine). When i go to the Advanced -> Other Settings -> BT848 CHip -> Video Source I can hear sound shortly, but when i try to adjust the slider, Dscaler crashes and there isn't any sound. And when i close Dscaler, i can hear the sound.
So my questions are How to stop the sound? How to get sound? and How to stop the reset of the hardware when starting the software.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit: I just saw that when i switch the video inout to COMPOSITE or S-VIDEO i can here the sound, too.

I have downloaded the Dscaler prog, and it seems to work just great. I think i got v3.1, the last released stable version apparently.
I can't get any sound.
I am going to sound like a real noob here, but i am not too sure what to look for in solving a TV problem; all my experience is in sorting out games problems.
I have an old MM100PCTV BT848 card, but have lost the drivers and apps.
I ran the dscaler prog as recommended by Minkus (can't give you the link apparently) and get a reasonable picture (although i have to check the old tv cable that i am using). The problem is that i get no sound, and i don't know what to change.
I did everything that Minkus suggested, choosing the WDM acquisition driver route, rather than the Ivan Ushkov route.
I have read all three pages here, and nothing seems to be relevant to my problem. I apologise if i have missed the crucial info, and if that's the case, could someone point out the relevant bits for me?.
Also, there seems to be no teletext; even though the options are in the menus, is that only in a more recent release or does it need the original Cebra teletext app?.
I would appreciate any help you guys could give me, esp seeing as you are doing it all for free... and gods bless you for it (admin_buttkissing 0)

I'm still having problems getting sound out of the composite input. I can get tuner sound to work fine...but I can't seem to figure out how to get sound from the input.
I'm using an older AVER 98 card. I have a cable from the tuner card to the sound card input. The audio i'm trying to hear is inputed into the tuner card using an RCA to mini plug wire.
Thanks.

Hi!
I have a Typhoon PCI Capture TV-Card.
The Chipset is Philips 7134.
...first i had no audio...then:
i have done the folling:
SAA7134Card->
Audio Input = TV-Tuner
Audio Standard = Custom Settings
Mhz = 7,2 FM/NICAM
Then OK
BUT!
I have only Mono... i think this is a Bug in the Software, right?!
Any idea when it will be fixed?
I dont like the original Software... DScaler is very cool!
But i missing a good sound...thats **** ((
My best greetings from Germany
I also posted this in the Dscaler forum but haven't gotten a response there. Can anyone here help?
I have an S-video capture card, Acer Media EZ DVD PCI, configured as LifeView FlyVideo2000. Picture looks fantastic.
For the sound, I have a sound card that has optical SPDIF in and out ( Mad Dog Multimedia Entertainer 7.1 DSP). I'm sending optical into the card and optical out of the card to my Receiver.
I have 2 questions:
1) I'd like to get Dscaler to play the Optical In signal when I open Dscaler. But I've played with the Audio-Mixer settings and I can't seem to get any sound. I've read some messages here that lead me to believe Dscaler can't handle digital sound, is that correct? if it can, how do I get this to work?
2) As an alternative, I can get sound to ouput properly if I open my sound card software (Audio Deck) and disable 6 channel speaker output and select the Digital In icon with "Loop back to SPDIF Out" selected. I hear perfect digital sound. Problem is I have to open the software to do this. And when I close Dscaler, I still hear the audio signal so I have to go back into the software and switch back to 6 channel speaker setup. If I could automate this I think that could be fine. I could have myHTPC call some function to turn on the DIgital In loop back and then open Dscaler and then turn off Digital In when Dscaler closes (not quite sure how I would sync those events though). Anyone try to do this before? The solution is likely to be specific to my audio card so I'm not sure how much help I am going to get here.
Thanks,
Marc

dscaler version 3.1. Dell 4600 integrated sound and video. Video works great. Using this with ATI TV wonder. Sound works great until I exit descaler at which time, the sound is still playing. I have to open the ATI TV interface then close it again to turn off sound. I do not have this problem with my dell 400sc with ATI TV wonder and dscaler 3.1. Anyone know how to stop this? thanks!

I have problems using DScaler because I can't get any sound. I have tried up to the 4.1.9 revision and I couldn't trigger any sound unless using a VCR for tuning which is not possible for me. That is too bad because DScaler gives a much better picture quality than any other tv program.
I have a ATi Tv Wonder Pro (Phillips 1236-MK2 and CX23883-17) on a nforce2 mainboard (A7N8X Deluxe) with nVidia soundstorm integrated soundcard. I was never able to make the sound work in DScaler but I have read somewhere that someone with a nForce2 wan't able to hear sound since his recent drivers update so it could be it. I am using Win XP Pro by the way.
But on the other hand I have listened to the outputs of the tuner and when I use DScaler to tune it, no sound comes out whatsoever so it doesn't have anything to do with the soundcard configuration. The tuner somehow isn't triggered to give sound output.
I am using the Ati drivers because I wasn't able to find any generic WDM driver for my chipset. I have read of many people with my tv tuner chipset that have the same problem. If anyone managed to find a way of correcting this any help would be very appreciated.
I have V-Gear MyTV 2 Radio and i have audio trouble. I can't get any sound using Dscaler. I have NForce mboard with Sounstorm and i can't select the option in dscaler -> SAA1734 CARD -> AUDIO INPUT -> TUNER. It's gray and i can't select it. Why? Please help!

has anyone had any luck with getting sound to work on an stb tv tuner? i've tried all of the tuner software out there, and dscaler is the best. i'd rather wait and get sound with dscaler, than use another program. i've gotten sound and video with other programs, so i know my equipment's ok. just wanted to see if anyone has been able to make it work.

I just replaced by TV card with an ATI Radeon All in Wonder 9800. Its a combo tv and video card. I couldn't get Dscaler to play sound except if I did the following.
Went to Dshow-filters
Went to ATI TV Tuner changed the channel to 3
Went to TV Audio Crossbar
Change output to Audo Decoder out
Change input to audio tuner in
Checked off link related streams
Clicked ok and sound comes on.
The only problem is that the sound and video are not synched.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know...

'm glad to have a place to put a post.
Seeing as it's my first for the site, thank you DScaler Team for the dedication and hard work you continue to do. Glad to see the PHP updated.
All the threads are good and most of the articles have been followed carfully. On to the problem.
I have an 3dfx Voodoo 100/TV Card (US) which is in reality an VTV1003 STB Card made in Mexico.
After downloading and installing the latest btdwmdrvinstaller 5.3.8, and following cosmotics suggestions as well as others with what I have which is:
Primary chipset:
BT878KHF
25878-12
CB1003
0004 (Korea)
ST (Second or Sound Chipseton same TV card)
TEA 6420
H990B9944
(Malaysia)
During the installation, I've set the Video to STB and the Audio to Temic 4032 (which is on the sticker on the card on the main silver converter box on the card). (I've also tried the suggestions for using the Phillips-NTSC settings w/o success.) Also on the adv. settings. I chose no for everything except the TEA 6420 and made no changes to the hex #, yet.
I've checked and re-checked my audio cable going from my Sound Blaster Live 5.1 for Aux IN, and the Audio Out on the TV Card and are fine. (Was always working in Win98, Win2kpro, and didn't have to do all these tweaks, but not for WinXP.)
Upon installation and channel setup of DScaler 4111, it's detecting most of the channels through the 5-900mhz coaxial cable I have coming from the wall of my new apartment. (Basic Comcast package.) (It detects 69 channels on the NTSC-M for the USA, basic cable connection scan setting.)
Great picture, but alas, no sound. System sounds are working just fine in the background, so it's not the card.
Drivers in the Device Manager (w/o exclamation or red "X's" on them and no other category) are:
Conexant's BtPCI WDM Audio Capture
Conexant's BtPCI WDM Video Capture
3dfx's TVPCI, WDM Crossbar
The Audio Capture properties say, upon checking:
"No drivers are installed for this device." Hmmmm....
I believe none are required to be installed, but is this the correct message I should be getting? Upon checking the sound and audio settings on the hardware tab, in the control panel, the device status shows that it's working properly.
After the amcap.exe experiment didn't work (per the instructions) I thought I'd put a post to anyone that may have come across the same type of situation.
I'm about to try the VCR trick to see if it changes anything with the audio signal, i don't think it will.

On the sources column for DScaler I had options for STB, my webcam and the new Conexant's BtPCI Capture (DShow-for DirectShow) and so I chose the new driver and wa-la! Sound kicked right in.
There was a darkening of the video quality, but I'm sure this is adjustable.
Thanks again for your patience and hope this helps someone else out there.

So far I cannot capture video AND audio, just video, and it doesn't initialize sound under Windows Media Maker.[QUOTE]
