Has anyone heard or seen these? How do they sound? Thanks.

Some of the audiophiles here tend to comment negatively on Meridian speakers - before they do I'll simply point out it's unlikely any experience they have had listening to their floor standing speakers relate to these, which use a different design.

Their highest end model stands to become the ideal home theater speaker from Meridian due to the controlled directivity pattern that this company had not espoused thusfar.

Has anyone heard these? How do they compare to other in-walls? How do they compare to good stand alone speakers? Do you like the sound? I presume they were shown during the past Cedia Expo.

Meridian used 7 of the large inwalls and their new inwall subwoofers for their CEDIA demo for a totally hidden demo.

It was quite nice.

Since this was a limited listening session; with a noisy tradeshow going on outside saying much beyond that isn't particularly germane given said conditions and limitations to the environment.

Cheers,

Thanks John. Has anyone also heard the Revel I20/I30s? How about the Triads? I believe these to be some of the better in-wall speakers and wonder how they compare with good stand alone speakers. I know that in-walls tend to be inferior but maybe they are getting closer as more and more companies expend R&D on them.

The triads to me are a torture chamber, and I would expect the Big meridians
due to the D'appolito configuration to be the best of the bunch.

Peter,
Care to elaborate on the "torture chamber" comment? Are you characterizing every speaker in the lineup in such fashion, or did you have a specific model in mind?

Everytime I hear the triads thx in wall HT packages at the shows there is a bunch of people clamoring how great it sounds. The same for JBL Synthesis and Darts system. To me they all sound alike, dry unarticulate, boomy, a torture chamber. This applies to all those THX packages.

I like Dynaudios and some Meridians, at this point if it is not d'appolito configs I don't want to touch it. For in walls james loudspeakers and inductiuon dynamics are ok. I do have very high expectations on the Evolution Acoustics and based on the recommendations here I am willing to experiment with them for the ultimate 12 channel setup.

Peter,
As far as I know, there are currently no THX Triads. I am not sure where you got that information. Here is a review of the Platinum system that you might find interesting. I have never heard of this guy, so I cannot consider him the Greg Rogers of audio, but he doesn't seem a total noob. I am not saying they are the be all end all, but I find you comments inaccurate and disproportionately harsh. And yes, I am considering the source!

Now if they don't cost enough for your clients, I understand completely!

I realize these are not in-walls, and I am curious if your comments only apply to in-walls and only ones you've heard "at shows". If so, I think you would know better than to characterize the performance of any speaker after a show demo.

They look decent, and are certainly D'appolitos. My only probelm is the compression driver, can sound edgy in livelier rooms.

Peter,
It isn't technically a compression driver, insofar as its primary function is only to control dispersion. As a matter of fact, Triad calls it a Dispersion Control Lens.
You might like these better, and they would fit perfectly under a Torus! Hey, they even have an in-wall version!

Happy New Year, everyone!

No QQQ, you are confusing National Guards, these are ALABAMA, not Fla.
