Oppo with Panasonic Plasma

I have read (and searched) throught the threads for a definitive answer to this question, but was unable to locate an updated answer.

I have a TH-42PX600U and am looking at getting an upconvert DVD player. I have Oppo have some of the best and their costs are not that bad. But I have heard there are potentially some issues with certain TV's and Oppo.

Can anyone tell me if I am going to have issues with my panel and either of the 970, 971, or the new 981??? If not, which one would be best for me as well?

Oppo 970HD should be a good match using Mediatek chipset (best MPEG decoder around). It's deinterlacer is mediocre but you will only notice this on video sources like TV/anime/cartoon/concert DVDs. 971 is discontinued and has Faroudja which may cause macroblocking on plasma. 981 is more expensive and has Faroudja which can also cause macroblocking.
