I have the Costco brochure, Aug 22 - 28 for the 50" Vizio. Looks like it may be in store and on-line.

The June 20 - 26 43" Pioneer appears to be on-line only. Price is higher than currently available pioneer (but maybe it is the newer model???) as it indicates it includes the media receiver.

Vizio

I also purchased one of the 42" Vizio units and quickly returned it for a 43" Pioneer. Way too many issues (including severe green banding with component input) with the Vizio for me. I would wait until a few people have actually used the 50" Vizio before I got my wallet out. I wouldn't mind going to a 50" panel, but my 43" Pioneer is absolutely perfect other than I wish it were bigger.

Read the specs, the 50HDM has a lot more features than the 42HD, including 2 HDMIs, 2 Components and RGB. Seems like a good deal

that's messed up, how can you return something you bought 3 months ago to buy a bigger one?

If we all just do that, we don't ever have to worry about price dropping, right? we can just buy, return, buy, return, buy, return.

People like you ruin the return policies for the rest of us.

Specs

The Vizio 42hde had good specs as well but it didn't deliver. In fact there is a very lengthy thread here with plenty of examples of problems. Read the Vizio thread then read the Pioneer thread and it is like night and day of complaints for the Vizio and many more happy campers with the Pioneer. I for one wouldn't trade my Pioneer 43" panel for a larger Vizio panel based on my past experience with the last unit I tried from Vizio. I am not bashing Vizio, because I do have a 20" LCD set in a bedroom and it is fine, but the plasma had way too many problems for a $2K+ set.

10 bit / Faroudja processing, 6,144 shades of gray

Same here...no problemos...just awesome HD viewing! I'm upgrading to the 50".

Notice the improvements on the 50" - WOW!:

Two HDMI inputs.

VIZIO Color Vision (VCV) - with True 10 bits levels ability to display over 1.07 billion colors.

DCCI (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) by Faroudja Motion Adaptive de-interlacer resulting in exceptional picture quality.

1366*768 native resolution - pretty standard for 50"

Single Scan Technology with unprecedented 10,000:1 contrast ratio
for deep blacks and brilliant whites and over 6144 shades of grayHigh brightness (1000 cd/m2 typical) providing a more vivid, brilliant picture in any environment.

Looks like a great set. My local Costco does not have it in stock yet.

The questions I have are:

Can the speakers be removed?

Does the unit have cooling fans?

The manual is available for download and it appears to have fans based on images in the manual.

Indeed, I had a long history with Vizio/Delta Tech support. I suppose they had thier ups and downs but overall they never fixed my 480p banding problem.

Sure, go here and find out. The discount from $3299.00 MSRP is excellent for this Costco membership buy! Add the security blanket of Costco and it's a no brainer.

I'm recommending this to all my friends who have drooled over plasmas but just can't spend the $5K for a Japanese 50in unit.

It looks like this display has removable speakers. The attached picture is from the manual available online in pdf: http://www.vinc.com/pdf/VIZIO_P50HDM_Manual_052405.pdf

It would be very attractive mounted on a wall and without the speakers.

That price is comparable to DLP or LCD RPTV prices. At this price , they will be go very fast. If you don't like PQ , you can always exchange for something better.

And if this unit has PQ comparable to the 42", I'm sure your friends will thank you!

I've owed THREE 50in plasmas in the last 4 years so I do know "when to hold them." My current unit is a Japanese NEC so this is no biggie to me. But this is a good buy and perhaps I'll even purchase the Vizio for workout room. But thanks for the financial advice. Kenny.

My recommendations are to friends who are NOT AVS fanats that nick pick PQ like we do. They just want a cool on the wall TV that puts out good PQ in high definition and not spend $5K for a 50in plasma; at half less, it's just crazy. Regardless, the instant rebate coupon puts this 50in plasma set at or about the price of a DLP rear projection unit. I'm going to say that it's really a no brainer: Vizio 50in HD plasma (with Costco "ledgendary" protection) vs. Samsung, LG, etc 50in DLP rear projection. No contest and they will thank me.

I am loving my P42HDe and have not encountered any of the problems others have.

It certainly looks like Vinc is using the Samsung glass. I found these two items interesting...

Spec listed above:
"3-D Noise Reduction, Sharpness Improvement, Non-linear Chroma Enhancement, Closed Color Suppression, Non-Linear Scaling, Adaptive Contrast and Color.."

From Algolith site:
"Algolith Announces Samsung Electronics Has Purchased Some Of Its Algorithms For Digital Noise Reduction And De-Interlacing."

http://www.algolith.com/index.php?i...tx_mininews_pi1[showUid]=37&cHash=3ad493f5b5

If this is the case then I am very interested in this set. I saw the Algolith products at the HES2005 in NYC and they do good things to SD broadcasts (which I am unfortunately forced to watch at times)

It looks to me that the speakers are bottom mounted and fixed.

This unit does not come with stand or tuner which makes the price lower. I suppose for those who do not care, it is OK. Otherwise, I do not see much good in it.

What good is a stand for us wallmounters, and what good is a tuner for us that have HD cable or HD satellite.?

regarding the post questioning purchasing and returning 3 months later. THAT IS the costco policy. With thier revenues doing well compared to other clubs combined with a consumer friendly return program why not? I dont think for one minute Costco would do it if it meant a big impact on the bottom line. Its just like walmart who hold thier vendors hostage basically. I am sure costco weilds a huge buying power and had agreements with thier vendors to take back stock. All the more reason for them to saddle up with Vizio.

So having said that I will be in line for two of these puppies in August and if I dont like the PQ well back they go

wait let me get this right, you buy a plasma tv from costco, you decide (during their time frame for returns) that you'd rather get something else, and you just return it no questions asked!?
