E-Tech Open House featuring BlendZilla!

Guys!

With the arrival and installation of our new Stewart Luxus Deluxe screen of 107" width, we are now positioned to show the DVX edge blend system, by appointment, to interested visitors here in Phoenix; so do e.mail or call if interested. Here is a peek of what you will be seeing; HDTV and DVD sources across two Marquee 9500s, each 'half' of the image is scaled to 1024p and the screen is illuminated to near 500 ANSI lumens.

One visitor last week was John Gannon, who spent an afternoon viewing a variety of materiel on our temporary canvas test screen and supplied these comments:

"At the very least, you can forward that I think this was among the finest video I've ever seen...it was obvious the projectors were singing easily at their most comfortable state......the image simply blew me away and made me want one.

I've wanted very few of the setups that I've witnessed...this one has
the greatest promise of any..... "

I only wish I could play with something like that and have room enough to do it right.

Some day, that'll be done in software.

Guys!

One of the side benefits (or side-by-side benefits) of this system is the very short throw ratio of 0.95 to 1.2 depending on the projector versions being used; the largest possible CRT image in the smallest amount of space!

I guess I left off the smiley.

Yeah, edge blend systems do have one short throw, which is nice. I guess this is a different edge blending than the previous system you had? What was that one, fulsom?

This processor is from Europe; Folsom announced a product four years ago to be called "DisplayProHD", had it on their website with pictures, list $15K, and never built even one; we demoed using two of their other units cross-connected and it did make a nice picture, now we have practical actual hardware which I am using every day here :-)

Tim,

Just so I know which lottery tickets I need to buy, how many zeroes are in the price for just the blender? Also, I understand that it serves as a scaler and switcher as well. Can you elaborate on these functions?

The processor switches and transcodes up to eight inputs including SDI, HD-SDI, DVI, composite, S, component, and RGB in 3, 4 or 5-wire modes up to 1600 x 1200. The pair of exotic scalers then render a left segment of about 60 percent of the overall image width for the left projector and also a right 60 percent segment; the segments are overlapped with soft luminance rolloff in the center to create one seamless 16 x 9 image. Screen widths to 111" have been tested with two Marquee 9500s with stunning results. We expect image widths to 130" should work with CRTs, larger perhaps with a pair of 4 x 3 DLPs, not yet tested. The processor lists for $17K. Our demo system here is fed a Dish Network HDTV tuner, and an HTPC for DVD playback with awesome results. Each CRT need only display 1280 x 1024 so one can start out with 8" projectors with some savings, and move up to 9"ers later on.

:P I would question the sanity of the person with a $17K processor and a pair of exotic scalers and only 8" crt's... :P

Why? I can understand both beliefs. If one is going to spend $17k, then they might as well go all out. On the other hand, one may only have a budget of say $20k to $25k. In this case, brand new tubed 8" LCs would fit the bill. Since you should be able to do 1600x1200 on an 8", there should not be a problem getting 1920 x1080. According to tse, almost all of VDC customers use a blender.

One cool thing about this machine is uniformity should be better.

Not that I am really in the position to drop that change now anyway, but what about HDMI?

Sanity is not an option! We are talking about the finest projected 100"-130" image possible from CRT or any other display technology; the skeptics are welcome, by appointment, to visit and see......

I am quite sure that viewing this Godzilla/Blendzilla would be utterly convincing.
In extreme cases the incidence of bank robberies might increase.

Pete,
Scott showed me a picture a helicopter flight simulators in Alabama. Wouldn't you be able to see them, since you are close by and work for the military?

Well Guys!

We are anticipating the visits of more distinguished individuals in February, Mike Parker to name one. Also a long-time friend from Meechigan is due here on Saturday, an engineer from WXYZ TV who hopefully will provide us with his commentary after seeing BlendZilla in action, so stay tuned!

Smile Wow!!! What-a Picture

Tim As Assembled An Imaging System That Is Truly Remarkable! The Terms "big Screen" Or "wide Screen" Do Not Do Justice To His Blendzilla System. This Is "huge Screen". Both Hd & Sd Looked Incredible. Didn't Want To Leave.

Tim,

I'll bet a D-5 master would look great on your blendzilla system. I wish I could auditition a feature film playing on our Sony 5500 HDCAM SR deck. Remember--when it comes to pristine pictures, MPEG4 SP rules!
Regards,
Rich

Tim could you list all the kit in use - could you also include the audio system you are running there as well - curiosity, Cheers.

I have an issue I dont know how to resolve......

I have TWO Barco 1208s/E projectors - with NEW mint tubes - both PJs in excellent shape (tubes waiting to go in bit are here)

I also have a Barco 1209s which needs new tubes.

A some might remember! I have always wanted to do a blend, trouble is will the two 8" Barcos be OK - by OK I do mean "wow , excellent type of OK"

OR do I really need to get a second 1209s and 2 sets of new LUG tubes......

This has been driving me nuts since my 1209s arrived.......it is now very heavily modified, all work can swop back into a 1208s/E unit (and then copy it in the other)

$17K for the blender - still too high for me BUT I am getting closer to one..........

Just if I did I need to use it to its best possible setup......

Any ideas, thoughts or donations ???
